Job Description

CSL Group is looking for someone who will be proactive in preparing and maintaining a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and establishing unit costs, labour rates, productivity factors, and location impacts. This individuals accuracy is critical to the profitability of the business, as under-estimates may cause significant financial losses and over-estimates may result in the inability to win bids.Job Duties:

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Implement and maintain CSL Group’s systems and procedures in relation to construction estimating and tendering
  • Contact sub-trades and material suppliers regarding pricing of materials, supplies, and services
  • Send addenda to suppliers and sub-contractors as they are received, and as applicable to each sub-trade
  • Conduct quantity take-offs using estimating software (Planswift) for all areas of the estimate and transcribe measured quantities into CSL’s pricing template.
  • Assist in the selection and maintenance of sub-contractors within CSL Group’s Estimating Database
  • Attend pre-bid meetings on site to determine bid size, scope, and complexity
  • Assist in the delivery of tenders and attending bid openings
  • Review all unusual pricing requests with the senior estimator
  • Monitor and record pricing trends for bids submitted in various areas and throughout different times of the year
  • Liaise with the client’s project manager/contract administrator to clarify any questions regarding contractor/sub-contractor scope of work
  • Prepare materials, labour and equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out a construction project according to proposals, plans, estimates and specifications.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • 6 months of construction estimating and/or project coordinating experience.
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering or Building and Construction Sciences is an assest
  • Understanding of construction contract documents.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Previous estimating software knowledge is an asset.
  • Ability to work as a team player, manage multiple priorities, and work under pressure.
  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks in a logical order of importance.
  • Ability to travel if required.
