Subsidiary: Miller Paving LimitedSummaryMiller Maintenance proudly provides maintenance services on maintenance contracts for the Ministry of Transportation throughout the province of Ontario. Our leadership in the Ontario road and highway maintenance industry is based on our commitment to continuous improvement through education, innovation, safety, and training.What Does a Maintenance Operator DoWith instructions from the Patrol Supervisor, the Maintenance Operator performs repairs and maintains the highway infrastructure, so it meets the performance requirements outlined in the Area Maintenance Contract. This could include physically demanding duties such as pothole repairs, installing small signs, end treatments to debris pick up while assisting the emergency response operators and patrollers on the highway. You may be required to operator a loader, crash truck, sign truck and participate in winter operations. In this position you may be appointed to one of our main crews, Emergency Response, Winter Patrol or Maintenance.As a Maintenance Operator, You Will:

  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual HSE obligation for the staff and public are met
  • Perform road maintenance activities on provincial highways
  • Respond to emergency situations such as spills, accidents, inclement weather and assist in implementing an emergency plan
  • Provide traffic control at accident scenes, including set up and take down of traffic control signs
  • Complete diary, daily electronic timesheets, and other various paperwork required
  • Pick up Right-of-way debris and litter
  • Respond to public complaints
  • Inspect patrols and create deficiency lists for Foreperson
  • Make snow and ice control decisions during winter and initiate equipment and operator call outs
  • Operate a variety of equipment
  • Conduct daily circle checks on vehicles; clean and maintain vehicles and perform equipment maintenance as required
  • Other duties as assigned
What Youll Bring:
  • Knowledge of highway maintenance, considered an asset
  • Mechanical knowledge and experience with general equipment maintenance, considered an asset
  • Experience in snow and ice control along with knowledge of OTM book 7, considered an asset
  • DZ license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment
  • Effective communication skills to accurately document daily activities, incident reports, and deficiency logs
  • Excellent team player to work productively in a highly functional team
  • Ability to remain flexible with shift schedules, and extended hours (evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays)
  • Available to respond to call-ins within thirty minutes
  • Willingness to work and drive in extreme weather conditions
  • Able to lift 50lbs
