We believe that when we help families manage lifes challenges and develop strategies to move forward, we create a healthy and vibrant community for all.POSITION OVERVIEW:The Facilities Worker shall provide general facilities and maintenance support based on the direction of the Manager of Facilities. The Facilities Worker will support multiple Carizon locations. This position requires an ability to positively accept demands and priorities which are continuously changing.RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee Carizon’s parking program which includes handing out parking passes, monitoring parking lots and volume, and giving parking tickets
  • Assist Manager of Facilities with procurement of contracts and oversight of delivery of services
  • Perform weekly/monthly inspections and document in log books
  • Meet with contractors on site to provide support and access for scheduled service and repairs
  • Assist with WHMIS documentation
  • Perform general maintenance duties which includes painting, drywall, plumbing, minor electrical, and grounds work (summer and winter)
  • Frequent travel between various Carizon sites across the Waterloo Region
  • Prioritize competing demands/tasks and adjust workload accordingly
  • To always perform work safely and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
RESPONSIBILITIES COMMON TO ALL CARIZON EMPLOYEES:

  • Ensure awareness and maintenance of best practices and standards for agency activities

  • Incorporate and strengthen a team-based working environment that empowers staff to be collectively responsible for ensuring the agency achieves its mission
  • Contribute to overall agency operations by embracing change and innovation ensuring excellence in customer service
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
  • Completion of High School
  • College diploma or completion of some courses in the skilled trades would be considered an asset
  • At least two years of experience in facilities or maintenance position
  • Good overall knowledge/skill in plumbing, electrical, small engines, carpentry, painting, locksmithing, mechanical and general repairs
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees across the organization, and with contractors and service providers
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently
  • Ability to creatively problem solve, manage time, deadlines and competing priorities
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when influencing and/or negotiating with others
  • Must be able to model and promote Carizon’s vision, mission and values
PHYSICAL SKILL/EFFORT
  • This position is physically demanding with regular walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, and crouching
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted and 100 lbs assisted
  • Frequent use of tools and some machinery (i.e. lawn tractor, snow blower, hand tools, etc.)
WORKING HOURS/CONDITIONS:
  • Work takes place office and school environments with some work in the community
  • Must be available to work day and evening hours plus weekends as needed
  • Frequent travel throughout the Region of Waterloo
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required with $2 million in liability insurance
  • A satisfactory police check is required
  • Must be able to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination or documentation providing a satisfactory reason under the Ontario Human Rights Code for not being vaccinated
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
