Job Description

Sun Gro® Horticulture is one of the most prominent North American horticultural companies, employing over 800 staff and serving customers worldwide. Since its humble beginnings in 1929, it has become the leading supplier of soilless growing mixes to North America’s top 100 greenhouse and nursery growers, shipping over 70,000 truckloads of product annually. Sun Gro products are made to exacting standards and conform to high product quality and performance criteria. We are looking to add permanent full-time General Labourers to support our manufacturing operation in our Elma, MB location. Available shifts include the following:

  • Day shift (8:00 am - 4:00 pm)
  • Afternoon shift (4:00 pm - 12:00 am)
  • Overnight shift (12:00 am - 8:00 am)
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Demonstrated ability to wear proper PPE (steel toe-rubber boots, hard hats, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, etc.) and comply with safety requirements.
  • Pushing, pulling, overhead reaching, bending, and prolonged standing.
  • Sort, pack, package, and palletize materials and products.
  • Check and weigh materials and products.
  • Transport raw materials, finished products, and equipment throughout the plant manually or using powered equipment.
  • Assist machine operators, assemblers and other workers.
  • Visual quality checks of products against customer and internal specifications (including foreign materials and weight checks).
  • Ability to maintain the cleanliness of areas of responsibility.
  • Adhere to individual Product Standard Operating Procedures for components and packaging materials.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must have a positive attitude and value working as an integral part of a team.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Interact and share information with Team Members at all levels (Lead Hands,
  • Supervisors, Others).
  • For training purposes, you must be available to work the day and/or afternoon shift, as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous manufacturing experience is considered an asset.
  • Forklift experience is considered an asset.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • This is a hands-on position. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, stand for an extended period of time, and work in fluctuating temperature environments.
