Building on integrated land and resource management efforts in the past, the Ministry will seek to build a new vision in collaboration with natural resource ministries and First Nations that will embrace shared decision making on the land base. The Ministry will strengthen integration across the sector to mitigate, plan, respond and adapt our management practices, including a focus on effectively managing cumulative effects.The Ecosystems Biologist will be focused on the development of legal habitat designation packages for moose. If you are not yet registered with the CAB, please explain how you are immediately eligible, within 6 months of employment (i.e. currently a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the CAB).

  • Degree in biological sciences or equivalent.
  • Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment.
  • Minimum 2 (two) years of related experience (or an acceptable combination of education and experience), including field-based biological sampling, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime.
  • Experience in conducting environmental monitoring and assessments.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
  • Experience with ecological, vegetation and/or wildlife field data sampling and data management.
  • Experience using ArcGIS to review spatial data, conducting spatial analysis, and mapping.
  • Experience summarizing technical information and technical reporting.
  • Experienced with moose ecology, forest ecology and/or habitat management.
Provisos:
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s licence or equivalent.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • May require the operation of a variety of equipment.
  • Conducts field work which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
  • Occasional travel within the province.
