Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS’ goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.To find out more about our program check out the BCTS website.The primary focus of the Wildlife Resource Specialist is to develop creative management solutions to strategic resource management issues affecting BCTS operations, with an emphasis on wildlife and forest ecosystems. The position bridges environmental, social, and economic disciplines of natural resource management to advance policy, ministry priorities and strategies, and operational delivery of stewardship outcomes. The Wildlife Resource Specialist will lead diverse project teams of multidisciplinary specialists across multiple agencies and is responsible for the management, coordination, and delivery of strategic initiatives from initiation through to conclusion. Given the nature of this work, the Wildlife Resource Specialist will be called upon to liaise with staff within MOF, other provincial and federal government agencies, and external groups (e.g., First Nations, communities, industry associations etc.).Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a related field.
  • Registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in BC with the College of Applied Biologists.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working in a wildlife management capacity related to forestry or the natural resource sector.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders.
  • Experience with conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience developing, implementing, and/or integrating wildlife management strategies with forestry or natural resource sector operations.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience managing BC’s interior and northern forest ecosystems and associated wildlife species.
