About MRUFounded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Mount Royal has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education and unique undergraduate programs. In support of our belief that diversity in our faculty and staff enriches the work, learning and research experiences for the entire campus community, we strongly encourage members of the designated groups (women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, and diverse sexual orientation and gender identities) to apply and self-identify.About the Department of Economics, Justice & Policy StudiesThe Department of Economics, Justice & Policy Studies, Faculty of Arts at Mount Royal University invites applications for a tenure track which will commence July 1, 2022, subject to final budgetary approval, at the Rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Criminal Justice.The criminal justice program at MRU is Alberta’s only 4-year Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (BACJ) program; it combines theory with real world experience to expand student understanding of the criminal justice field, criminology, law enforcement, community outreach and victim services.The Department currently offers a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice (BACJ), and a Bachelor of Arts in Policy Studies, as well as minors in Political Science, Economics, International Business and Economics, and Finance and Economics.About the RoleThe successful candidate will join the Department of Economics, Justice, and Policy Studies (EJPS) at the rank of Assistant Professor and will be expected to either have an established research agenda or the ability to immediately develop a research program. Research and service opportunities may include supervision of research assistants or Honours students. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six 3-credit hour courses per academic year (typically 3 courses in the fall semester, 3 courses in the winter semester). Class sizes average between 35-40 students.The successful candidate is expected to have a completed PhD, or be near completion, in criminology or a cognate discipline.Teaching experience at the postsecondary level is preferred. The successful candidate will be able to teach quantitative methods in criminal justice. Because this is a Criminal [TT1] Justice program, special consideration will be given to those with experience in the criminal justice field.
