Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Dietary Aide
Assists Cook on duty with the preparation of sufficient amounts of food for residents, guests and for catered functions according to established menu rotation.Coordinates tray set up and delivery to the unitStores perishable food and avoids waste as per established guidelines.60%

Maintains sanitary regulations in the work area.Advises the Food Services Coordinator regarding inventory of kitchen equipment & utensils and assists in the purchasing of items as delegated.Checks accuracy of plated food with resident menu choices25%

Participates in department and quality improvement activities5%

Informs Food Services Coordinator of unsafe equipment or conditions and food supply concerns (e.g. food shortages, food quality concerns, supply availability)Completes written report where required5%

Attends meetings and workshops/in-services.Performs other related duties as required5%KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides excellent physical care for hospice residents in collaboration with the Registered Nurse
  • Monitors the safety and the care of hospice residents at all times.
  • Provides the basic care of residents including answering call signals, bathing, dressing and grooming residents, and attending to personal needs. Serves meal trays, provides assistance to residents during meal times, changes and makes beds and maintains resident rooms clean and tidy.
  • Under the direction of a registered nurse applies medicated and non-medicated creams for the care of residents.
  • Addresses the physical, emotional and psychological needs of all residents; assists in ensuring that spiritual needs are met as appropriate.
  • Completes designated cleaning tasks.
  • Participates in staff meetings, in-services, rounds, special projects. Attends all compulsory education sessions as required to maintain knowledge and expertise.
  • Performs other related duties as directed and required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:*NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.Education/Certifications:High School education or equivalent, completion of WHMIS, food handling and safety training required, CPR, and First AideExperience:
  • Basic work related experience required
  • Experience in an institutional kitchen setting is an asset, however on the job training is provided
  • Responsible for utilizing all policies, procedures, guidelines, and manuals in the department and facility
  • Ensures that the plated food does not conflict with allergies/intolerances of the residents, as indicated on the meal request form.
  • Ensures the highest quality of service to residents, family members, staff, and visitors
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:Required Skills/Knowledge:Physical:
  • Ensures that all equipment is maintained appropriately
  • Ensures that reports/checklists are completed daily, in accordance with set standards
  • Regularly lifting pots and pans with food items; occasionally required to lift boxes, sacks and other items up to 25 kg.
  • Rotates stock and moves items into storage on delivery days
  • Required to kneel when completing some cleaning tasks; standing and walking continuously throughout the shift
  • Good hand movement and finger dexterity
  • Lifts, places, and removes dishes, bowls, milk cartons, & food to and from cupboards, fridges, freezers and other equipment
  • required to lift trays of dishes, cutlery, etc. into the dishwasher and other equipment regularly
Personal:
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Knowledge of food service equipment
  • Knowledge of safe food handling and routine sanitation procedures
  • Must be able to apply logical thinking to a range of variable situations
  • Must be reliable, cooperative, neat in appearance and work habits.
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality regarding the residents and their status in the facility
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

DAYS and HOURS of work:
  • As a 24 hour, seven days’ per week operation, all applicants must be able to work 9 hour shifts between 0900 & 1830.hours on any day of the week including weekends
