We made air travel more affordable for Canadians and now were going global.Join us and love where you’re going.Reporting to the Director Financial Reporting and Compliance, this position will be responsible for providing leadership over the team responsible for financial reporting and technical accounting at WestJet. This position is a hybrid role and requires 2-3 days onsite.Reponsibilities:

• Lead a team of professional accountants in the production of accurate and timely financial information;
• Responsibility for all financial reporting documents including, but not limited to:

• Quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and note disclosure;

• Quarterly and annual Management, Discussion and Analysis (MD&A)

• Ensure efficient and effective implementation of all authoritative accounting pronouncements, including appropriate analysis of potential impact of future changes;
• Lead the technical accounting research for accounting issues arising from the business including the documentation, support and conclusions on accounting issues;
• Overall responsibility for complex accounting areas including, but not limited to, IFRS 16 lease accounting and end-of-lease provision accounting;
• Planning, organizing and coordinating the year-end and quarterly close process including coordination with the external and internal auditors;
• Technical accounting subject matter expert providing guidance and advice to various business units and senior management on various accounting matters;
• Establishing and maintaining controls over financial reporting, including the preparation of the financial statements and the MD&A;
• Ensure accurate accounting at entities above WestJet Airlines Inc. including multi-level consolidation to meet reporting requirements for Onex.

Experience and qualifications:

• Accounting Designation required (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
• Completion of post-secondary education in Business Administration/Commerce (accounting or Finance) is required
• Minimum 5 to 7 years relevant post-qualification experience, including the last 3 years in a management role (previous experience at a Big public firm preferred)
• Technical accounting knowledge in IFRS
• A high impact leader that meets WestJet’s defined leadership expectations
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Attention to detail, organized and thorough, with a strong desire for continuous improvement
• Ability to handle pressure and meet tight timelines
