At Swoop, our-day-to-day operations are vastly different and deliberately separate, but carefully aligned to complement the big-picture strategy of the WestJet Group.Key Member of Swoop’s Inflight TeamThe Manager, Inflight is the designated Flight Attendant Manager for the airline as required under the Canadian Aviation Regulations. This position will oversee the Inflight Department’s strategic plan and is responsible for managing and delivering the professional and safety standards of the flight attendants, including, cabin safety, security, regulatory requirements, and training, through those under their supervision.Inflight Operations

  • Assuring a current and approved flight attendant manual is in place
  • Assuring a current and approved flight attendant training program is in place
  • Overseeing flight attendant training in accordance with approved flight attendant training programs
  • Ensure flight attendant training records are maintained in accordance with CARs
  • Issue directives and bulletins to flight attendants as required
  • Ensure the implementation of effective corrective action to eliminate/reduce the risk of cause or probable cause of hazards, incidents, and accidents identified under the Safety Management System
  • Supervision of the flight attendants relating to operational, regulatory, and safety matters; responsible for the professional standards of flight attendants
  • Develop and oversee regulatory requirements of the safety features card
  • Liaison with other company departments to ensure consistency among standard polices and procedures
  • Assume any responsibilities delegated by the VP operations
  • Processing and actioning of any cabin crew reports
  • liaison with Transport Canada and other related regulatory bodies to maintain and protect airlines interested with respect to current regulatory requirements and in the event of pending or new legislations affecting inflight
Leadership
  • Organizing the ‘business’ and/or ‘commercial elements of the Inflight department
  • Develop and oversee the Inflight Operations strategic plan in alignment with the corporate objectives, budget, and key performance indicators -
  • Develop strategic direction in relation to Inflight -
  • Planning, and adhering to department budgets, managing costs in a safe and compliant manner a paramount priority -
  • Contribute to and support the product, point-of sale, and customer service programs
  • Assigning project work to the team to fix current issues, build new processes, innovate existing processes -
  • Identify opportunities to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the department -
  • Approve new policies and processes -
  • Performance management of direct reports, providing guidance for individuals further down the hierarchy
  • Develop a high performance and accountable leadership team through coaching, mentoring and training
  • Build strong relationships with external vendors - Be responsible for Inflight operational performance (SPOT)
Safety
  • As a Manager, demonstrate injury prevention attitudes and beliefs
  • Support the corporate goal of zero injuries and harm
  • Ensuring processing, actioning, and distribution of accident incident, flight attendant reports and other occurrence reports
  • Act as the lead for investigations into any injury or hazard. This can be delegated if necessary to a suitable qualified alternate
  • Ensuring that all H&S related injuries, near-misses and hazards are reported into the corporate system
  • Ensuring that all H&S related injuries, near-hits and hazards are investigated to determine root cause
  • Ensuring that corrective actions are put in place, where applicable, for all H&S related injuries, near-misses and hazards Ensuring that OSH representatives are engaged on any reportable injury investigation as their involvement is required
  • Ensuring that any team members participating in an investigation are briefed on the requirements and confidentiality of that investigation
  • Ensure that monthly workplace inspections and H&S meeting are held as per part 2 of the Canada Labour Code Accountable for reporting all reportable injuries to Labour Canada and/or Transport Canada and copying the information to the corporate H&S department
Professional Experience/SkillsTransport Canada requires that this individual to demonstrate to the Minister through a written exam and interview that this person has the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this position, and demonstrate they meet the requirements identified within the Commercial Air Service Standards manual.
  • Past airline experience mandatory
  • Post-secondary education is preferred, however a combination of training and experience will be considered
  • Minimum 10 years of related leadership experience
  • Previous regulatory experience and knowledge is strongly desired which includes a solid understanding of the Aeronautics Act, Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards as they relate to a 705 operator
  • Proven skills with performance management, budget planning, and project management with a minimum of one year in each
  • Have a commanding presence and be a dynamic and motivational leader
  • Must excel in a fast paced, dynamic environment, with a high degree of motivation and commitment to working with a team in the unique ULCC culture
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet work schedules, standards, and deadlines in a fast paced and ever-changing environment
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge with MS Office, Adobe products, etc.
  • Superior communication (written and verbal), presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent process analysis and problem-solving skills
  • A proven ability to remain focused, positive, and productive during stressful situations
  • Must certify as a flight attendant and fly as required
Education/Qualifications
  • Recognized Diploma at a College/Technical School
  • Fulfill the responsibilities as a Flight Attendant Manager with Transport Canada
  • Know such of the contents of the air operators operations manual, air operator certificate and operations specifications as are necessary for the performance of the assigned duties
  • Know such of the provisions of the Aeronautics Act , the Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards, as are necessary for the performance of the assigned duties; and demonstrate to the Minister that the person has the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position
  • The Flight Attendant Manager position will require the successful candidate to demonstrate to Transport Canada that they meet the requirements identified in Paragraph 725.07(2)(d) of the Commercial Air Service Standards
