Job Description

Career OpportunityThe Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire a full-time Marketing and Communications Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Marketing and Communications, with direction from the Director, Communications and Stakeholder Relations, this position is responsible for building and optimizing the CTCC’s marketing and communications strategy that is consistent with the brand and engages the CTCC audiences and stakeholders, managing internal communications, and supporting the organization’s strategic objectives.Duties and ResponsibilitiesMarketing

  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners to strategize, develop, and implement effective marketing communication initiatives to support the CTCCs goals and objectives, including digital and print marketing.
  • Champion customer and content management platform (HubSpot).
  • Execute marketing budget and campaign/ advertising allocations.
  • Manage digital marketing brand. Develop and maintain the CTCC’s voice and tone for digital and print materials.
  • Manage and coordinate creative materials, including ads for social media, websites, landing pages, brochures, photography, videos, and various print projects.
  • Monitor trends and audience behaviour to enhance the effectiveness of digital channels and communications.
  • Manage client appreciation initiatives and work closely with the sales team to execute them.
  • Provide design support for digital and print projects.
  • Cultivate strong relationships across the organization and with industry and media partners, community members, influencers and content creators, agencies, CTCC partners and suppliers.
  • Maintain digital content for the CTCC’s projects.
  • Work with the Manager, Marketing & Communications in community engagement programs and client, partners, and stakeholders’ special initiatives.
  • Work with agencies and third-party contracted service companies on asset and work development.
  • Work with the Manager, Marketing & Communications and industry partners as needed for joint marketing activities.
Internal Communications
  • Develop internal communications plans for various organizational initiatives.
  • Manage internal communications through a robust employee newsletter.
  • Provide internal content creation and editing services to ensure all communications are appropriate and on brand (both in grammar and content).
External Communications
  • Supports the organization’s issue management team in developing clear, effective, timely communications to address issues proactively.
  • Support the creation of strategic communication plans for the CTCC’s external initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategic communication and content strategy via social media, emails, the CTCC blog, and website that builds purposeful connections, tells the CTCC story and reflects the brand personality.
  • Build and execute digital media strategy and oversee the Digital Marketing Coordinator.
  • Oversee all social media communications, including asset creation, engagement, and optimization.
  • Oversee annual content calendar outlining all marketing and communication initiatives.
  • Maintain website and update content as needed.
  • Support the Manager, Marketing and Communications with media relations projects as needed.

  • Strong creative writing skills and ability to write on brand in both the long and short form as required.
  • Ability to think strategically.

  • Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media.
  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
  • Photography knowledge and a creative eye for producing visual content.
  • Displays the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in a written and visual format.
  • Practices superior time management.
  • Is a team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary (i.e., content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management).
  • Ability to pick up new tools quickly.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the principles of SEO, including keyword research and Google Analytics.
  • Possesses functional knowledge and/or experience with WordPress.
  • Design experience using InDesign, Photoshop and Canva.
  • Demonstrates winning Social Customer Service techniques such as empathy, patience, advocacy, and conflict resolution.
  • Possesses the ability to identify potential negative or crises and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues.

  • A degree in marketing, communications or a similar field is welcomed but not required with relevant work experience.
Experience
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in marketing and communications.
  • Experience managing corporate digital marketing and communication efforts.
