We made air travel more affordable for Canadians and now were going global.Join us and love where you’re going.The Manager, Ground Operations Standards & Support is the accountable leader responsible for all aspects in the maintenance of a robust ground operations program that aligns with corporate strategy, ensuring that operational and financial objectives are supported. The role leads the development, review and setting of standards across the entire airport network that align with industry standards to ensure consistency, to leverage opportunities with service partners for minimizing procedural differences and reduction of training costs, as well as ensuring alignment and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role must ensure that operational risk, financial risk and, in particular, safety risk as it pertains to both personnel injury and aircraft damage, are thoroughly reviewed, identified, and escalated to the appropriate area for risk assessment, ensuring that any required mitigations are executed. This leader must work collaboratively with other areas of the business to support their unique initiatives and contribute to their success.Major Duties

  • Lead the identification, design, strategy, and implementation of activities, communications, and initiatives aimed at continuously improving WestJets Ground Operations program in the areas of efficiency, safety, execution, and cost.
  • Lead the development and documentation of specifications for aircraft loading and servicing equipment to meet manufacturer and industry requirements to ensure ongoing safety in servicing and loading operations network-wide.
  • Lead the development and ongoing utilization of financial and operational risk analysis tools and practices to ensure financial and operational risks are identified and mitigated for new and current ground operations initiatives.
  • Identify and participate in the identification of safety risks posed by new and existing procedures. Work with Safety teams across the organization on risk mitigating actions and CAPs as they pertain to the Ground Operations Program.
  • Lead all phases of strategy and development of Ground operations Program documentation, including manuals and supporting documents, to ensure ongoing regulatory, IATA, and industry alignment and compliance.
  • Develop and implement strategy to ensure design and development of ground operations training programs support standards compliance and safety, cost, and operational goals.
  • Lead effective change management related to ground operations initiatives with impacted business units throughout the organization, station leadership, and ground service provider leadership.
  • Lead the development of ground operations procedure to ensure the ongoing safety of personnel, guests, and aircraft.
  • Lead the development and ongoing utilization of a standards acceptance program to review and accept ground service provider standards and training, ensuring consistent safety and operational efficiency while reducing training costs.
  • Coach, encourage, and develop action plans with direct reports.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with significant attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and handle changing priorities and perform steadily under pressure
  • Proven ability to problem solve and think critically
  • Advanced knowledge of ground operations processes and industry best-practices
  • Process management skills with the ability to prioritize quickly and efficiently
  • Proven ability to provide high level of support to both internal and external leaders and vendors
  • Proven history of positively impacting change in the areas of safety, cost, and operational performance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat
  • 4+ years combined experience in Ground operations, including experience supervising ground operations activities and operations support role (training, standards, or operations management)
  • Experience in project and change management
  • Experience supporting initiatives involving global/network impacts
  • Experience in creation and publication of corporate communications
