We made air travel more affordable for Canadians and now were going global.Join us and love where you’re going.Overview of the Role:Reporting to the Director - Operations Control, the Network Duty Manager (NDM) role is responsible for providing operational leadership, direction and support to the teams within the WestJet Operations Control Centre. With a focus on proactive planning and optimization beyond the current day’s operation, the NDM oversees ‘day of’ OCC commercial decision making, communication and coordination to maximize operational performance, while ensuring safe operations. This role is also responsible for providing recommendations for operational improvement, supporting and escalating operational incidents and initial emergency response.Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high level oversight of network operations in the OCC to ensure safe and on-time operations, with a strong focus on operational metrics and associated targets.
  • As the key OCC operational ‘day of’ leader, the NDM will demonstrate and provide leadership (as defined by WestJet leadership behaviours) to all groups in the OCC.
  • Facilitate and direct overall team interaction and communication within the OCC to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work with all OCC stakeholders to anticipate potential network impacting events beyond the ‘day of’ operation and develop proactive IROP plans to mitigate impact to network operations.
  • Responsible routing aircraft in Movement Control to align with the network schedule/change bulletins and fleet restrictions, and aircraft cycling and routing requirements to support Tech Ops maintenance plans.
  • Provide strategic direction to all OCC teams pertaining to operational decisions.
  • Holds final commercial decision authority for ‘day-of’ operations with regard to aircraft utilization, flight cancellations, additional flights, APPR, etc.
  • Facilitate WestJet’s Emergency Response process and until relieved by the Incident Commander or their designate.
  • Assume and/or delegate responsibility for elevated incidents and security/safety events as required.
  • Resolve or assume escalations from the Operations Shift Manager (OSM).
  • Act as a role model and provide strong mentorship for OSM and relief NDM positions.
  • Prepare and deliver daily reports and operational status updates detailing operational highlights and concerns.
  • Lead for Daily Operational calls and responsible for coordinating and leading Operational Event Briefings.
  • Communicate significant IROP or operational concerns to senior leadership.
  • Collaboratively track and provide analysis of perceived or observed trends to make recommendations to leadership for the improvement of operational performance and guest experience.
  • In collaboration with the OCC teams, determine when travel advisories are required.
  • Escalate employee performance management concerns to leadership.
  • Act as the out-of-hours delegate for leadership in time sensitive performance interactions.
  • Contribute to assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Operations Control.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • Flight dispatch experience in a Type A “Complex” environment is strongly preferred.
  • Commercial Operational experience in roles within an Operations Control environment is required.
  • Advanced skills with Sabre/CAE and Operations Control Centre software applications are required.
  • Strong analytical, attention to detail, problem solving, proactive decision making, and organization skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • High degree of motivation and commitment to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and changing environment.
  • Previous leadership experience with strong facilitation and mentoring skills.
  • Able to deal with stressful situations using diplomacy.
