Job Description

Position OverviewThe Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.Reporting to the Principal Investigator.Position DescriptionSummary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Under general supervision & direction of the PI, develop and implement original experiments within the guidelines of the research
  • Collection of various types of human research data, including questionnaires, behavioral tasks, psychophysiology, and neuroimaging
  • Collection of various biological samples (eg. blood, urine, etc)
  • Responsible for data collection with human research participants, including studies with clinical populations and/or drug administration (e.g., cannabinoid or psychedelic compounds)
  • Administration of questionnaires and cognitive tasks, collection of biological samples (e.g., blood), acquisition of psychophysiological recordings, and guiding participants through neuroimaging sessions
  • Assist with data management, preparation of written documents (research protocols, manuscripts), and study recruitment
  • Interact with study participants in a safe and respectful manner according to established procedures
  • Conduct literature review, surveys, data collection, and other research for use in scholarly publications when required to
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or related field
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience in neuroscience or psychology research; preference given to individuals with demonstrated experience in behavioral pharmacology, neuroimaging, and/or psychophysiology
  • Knowledge of theory and practical application of technical procedures
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); demonstrated experience in statistical analysis (r, SAS, SPSS) or scientific computer programming (matlab, python, etc.) is desirable
