Job Description

Hull’s programs and services include prevention and early intervention, family-based treatment, school-based services, community group care, campus-based care, adult services and education and training. Located in Calgary, we have been serving Alberta’s young people and families for 60 years, and support over 7,000 young people and families each year.The Programs:River Lodge is an intensive campus-based treatment program that provides clinical interventions for adolescents, with developmental, emotional and behavioural challenges. The program provides a trauma-informed, relationally rich milieu with an emphasis on socioemotional skill acquisition, community participation, and connection to natural supports and culture.Turtle Lodge: Developmental Treatment Centre is an intensive campus-based treatment program that provides clinical interventions for children and youth with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and complex-severe mental health and behavioural challenges.Through evidence-based clinical interventions, the program strives to reduce significant behavioural challenges, enhance functional social skills, bolster connection with natural supports and prepare youth for a less-restrictive community setting. The program involves parents and natural supports as critical agents of change and resilience.The Position:We are currently looking for a full-time Mental Health Clinician. The schedule for this position is generally Monday to Friday and requires availability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program.Reporting to the Program Director, the Clinician attends to the welfare, health and treatment of youth assigned to their case load. The Clinician addresses persons served needs from both an individual and a global perspective, and is responsible for monitoring the clinical aspects of the program.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend intake conferences for all children referred to caseload.
  • Complete appropriate assessments and all professional and clinical documents (e.g., Court Reports and Progress Reports and ICMP’s).
  • Ensure effective communication and follow-through of all treatment directives.
  • Initiate the review, evaluation and updating of treatment plans.
  • Ensure that parents and the Case Worker are kept in touch, informed and appropriately involved.
  • Consult on all major treatment plans and decisions.
  • Provide clinical directives; ensure and provide clinical services as appropriate.
  • Attend all significant, clinical decision-making meetings, including psychiatric reviews, court appearances and discharge case team meetings.
  • Arrange for post discharge supports and follow-through as required.
  • Be available (including on call) to serve as a clinical consultant and deal with serious clinical or program matters.
  • Maintain a continuous learning mindset and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • In the absence of the Program Director, the Clinician may be delegated those clinical and administrative duties necessary to maintain the integrity and accountability of the treatment program.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • A Master’s Degree from a relevant university program.
  • Eligibility to become a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychologist; preference will be given to fully registered Psychologists.
  • Related clinical experience providing individual, group and family counselling.
  • Some familiarity with the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and the Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act (PSECA).
  • Experience in a therapeutic campus-based care (TCBC) environment is an asset.
  • High professional and ethical standards, working in accordance with ethical codes adopted by relevant profession and endorsed by the Agency.
  • Case management skills and experience working with multi-system and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong clinical, assessment and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal qualities including flexibility, effective communication, positivity, and relationship building skills.
  • A strong work ethic and self-motivated.
  • Discretion, tact and ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Cross cultural competence; knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recommendations, goals and activities of the commission.
  • A Police Information Check, which includes a vulnerable sector search, is required (or is in process of being completed) prior to employment.
  • A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and ability to drive Agency vehicles is preferred (min. 2 years driving experience with a class 5/GDL class 5 license).
  • Some flexibility in work schedule, given court deadlines for assessment completion.
