  • Provide support to our client with a disability within your home with an emphasis on residential and community based activities
  • Establish and build a professional relationship with client
  • Facilitate and support the client to:
o recognize and develop safety skills including how to respond to emergency situationso develop good health practices and personal care, which include assisting with dressing and groomingo recognize and respond to health care needs which may require attendance at medical appointments or liaison with health care professionalso administer medications, if requiredo recognize and respond to emotional needso promote and participate in leisure activitieso obtain transportationo develop and/or maintain a support (social) networko develop a personally rewarding and satisfying lifestyleo demonstrate awareness of abusive situations and inappropriate responseso budget, bank and manage personal finances as requiredWHAT YOU BRINGWe are looking to engage team members with diverse skills, experiences and interests. These are some of the competencies and credentials we are looking for:
  • Diploma and/or Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Rehabilitation, Disability Studies or a related social science
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
  • Demonstrate effective listening skills (verbal, non-verbal)
  • Demonstrate professional documentation skills
  • Use effective communication methods and techniques (e.g., voice mail, email)
  • Demonstrates problem solving, caring, compassion and understanding while at the same time aware of professional boundaries
  • Available 4 days per month (i.e., a day is considered a 24 hour period), including support at night when needed
