Job Description

FOR REFERENCE ONLYBOYNE CARE CARMAN JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Cook - Level 2 REPORTS TO: Food Services Manager POSITION SUMMARY The Cook is responsible for preparing food, helping kitchen team members in the preparation of food items and setting up allocated stations for food service delivery to the PCH, as instructed by the Food Services Manager and compliant with current standards with sanitation, cleanliness, food preparation, safety and team work. In absence of the Food Services Manager serve as supervisor of food service staff and other duties as assigned.Primary Tasks:

  • Prepares various food items depending on menu, recipe, and diet breakdowns for each meal.
  • Operates various kitchen equipment in preparation of meals.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work surfaces during the shift (clean as you go): clean floors, wipe down counter space (as spills occur), sweep and mop floor section at end of shift, cover and store unused foods according to standards and procedures for assuring quality and safety of foods.
  • Ensures delivery of optimal food quality, timely service, as well as high sanitation standards.
  • Demonstrates and maintains strong knowledge of food service and quantity cooking principles both for regular and special diets.
  • Uses standardized recipes, portion control, sanitary practices, safe food handling standards, and professionalism.
  • Is accountable for taking and recording food temperatures, ensuring food quality, taste and appearance.
  • Must be able to work at a constant pace to ensure that food is prepared and served on time for each meal of the day.
  • May be required to help order supplies or to help with inventory.
  • Required to prepare and serve meals in accordance with Federal, Provincial, Municipal and facility regulations in regards to infection control, workplace and food safety procedures.

  • Required to assure that each resident receives the food according to their diet order, incorporating personal preferences as outlined in the dietary service manual.
  • Assures compliance to residents’ rights as outlined.
  • Follows safety procedures as stated in the dietary service manual.
  • Complies with schedule as established by Food Service Manager.
  • Promotes good communication and effective working relationships adhering to the workplace Code of Conduct and Respect in the Workplace policies.
  • Attendance patterns reflects commitment to resident and departmental goals.
Human Resource Management
  • When delegated in absence of the Food Services manager serve as supervisor of food service staff.
  • Ensure workplace health and safety standards are adhered to.
  • Responsible to manage office duties as assigned.
  • Ensure that good communication exists between all departments affected by food services.
Essential Physical Requirements:
  • Walks and stands during entire shift.
  • Continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop and wipe.
  • Remain stationary for long periods of time.
  • Frequent washing of hands.
  • Be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Hazards may include, but are not limited to chemical, slipping and tripping.
Knowledge, Skills & Certifications:
  • Basic mathematical & reading skills.
  • Knowledge and experience using food preparation machinery.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a team.
  • Planning, Coordination & Time Management skills.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures.
  • Obtain and follow WHMIS program.
The team member may be expected to perform other duties as assigned. Such duties will be within the scope of the department mandate and employee’s training and ability. Employee must wear a hair net or other equally protective garments & footwear when working in food preparation areas.March-25-21Job Type: Full-timeSalary: $16.00-$17.00 per hourBenefits:
