This role plays a crucial part in content, coordination, marketing, financial sustainability, and business development for the Environmental Metrics micro-certificate to ensure a quality and timely launch.

  • The non-credit micro-certificate, Environmental Metrics for Sustainability Reporting, aims to train working professionals and new graduates in designing and setting up environmental metrics to track and assess the environmental impact of an organization #39;s activity and sustainability management practices and has received funding from the Continuous Learning Advancement Fund.
Organizational StatusThe Micro-Certificate Project Manager reports to the MFRE Academic Director and will work with the MFRE Micro-Certificate Steering Committee, MFRE Academic Program Manager, and other members of the MFRE faculty.Work Performed
  • Identifies all stakeholders for the micro-certificate, develops and implements a stakeholder engagement plan.
  • Develops project plan including defining project scope and creating a project schedule for the development and launch of micro-certificate.
  • Reviews and recommends options for the design/delivery of modules in the micro-certificate.
  • Identifies risks and works with Steering Committee to develop risk response strategies for the micro-certificate.
  • Works with Academic Director to develop a financial management plan (including an initial breakeven assessment and initial budget) for the micro-certificate.
  • Leads all stakeholders through the project planning and implementation phase
  • Works with program evaluator to develop feedback and evaluation loop for initial launch and ongoing micro-certificate offerings.
  • Develops and implements the communication plan for the launch of the micro-certificate.
  • Works with Marketing Manager to develop and implement a marketing plan for the micro-certificate.
  • Works with the Steering Committee to develop the outline for content for each of the 3 micro-certificate modules.
  • Coordinates tasks/people/resources with CLAF and LFS Learning Centre for content and delivery technology.
  • Co-creates and supports faculty members in the development of content, data, software tools, and applications for the micro-certificate modules.
  • Works with Steering Committee to develop ideas for use of targeted software tools and data analysis applications for their micro-certificate content and modules.
  • Conducts preliminary analyses of the market to identify opportunities for alliance and competitors and manage all joint collaborations.
  • Researches and identifies potential partners, and works with identified partners in industry, government agencies and institutions (locally, nationally, and internationally) to assist in content development of the micro-certificate.
  • Researches and identifies potential learners, including working with MFRE staff to develop a learner recruitment plan using UBC and MFRE sources.
  • Develops a plan to ensure the sustainability of the micro-certificate (including marketing activities, administrative tasks, financial projections, human resources, IT resources content upgrades, industry partner and learner recruitment plan, records management and archiving, etc)
  • Works with faculty member in the renewal and development of MFRE course content to focus on environmental metrics, supply chain metrics, sustainability reporting, and climate change.
  • Contributes to the MFRE academic, student, alumni, and professional development events and coordination as required.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
Consequence of Error/JudgementPoor performance in this position will prevent the MFRE program from reaching its academic potential and will mean a lower quality of education is being provided to students enrolled in the program. This would result in producing graduates who were less capable and less effective, which would lower the reputation that MFRE has as a high-quality program as well as reflect poorly on the Faculty and the University. This damage to the reputation of MFRE would make the recruitment of high-quality students much more difficult in the future.Supervision ReceivedWorks independently. Receives limited supervision and broad direction from the MFRE Academic Director and MFRE Academic Program Manager.Supervision GivenSupervises temporary student assistants as needed.Minimum QualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as Food and Resource Economics, or another resource-based area of applied economics. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters level of degree is preferred.
  • Four year #39;s work experience in the private or public sector in an area related to environment, food, or natural resources is preferred.
  • Solid base of knowledge of economics and environmental economics as applied to the food and resource sectors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in educational delivery in visionary and innovative ways with training in educational programming and curriculum development.
  • Must have solid working knowledge and demonstrated ability of 2 of the software tools currently used in the MFRE program including R Studio, MS Excel/ Power BI, Tableau, SQL Database, and Python to be able to develop content for the micro-certificate.
  • Multilingual ability and international experience are both assets.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be pro-active and show initiative.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines in view of micro-certificate priorities.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and efficiently to change
  • Must be able to analyze and interpret data, evaluate options and research alternatives.
  • Intermediate computer experience is required e.g., MS Office, internet, email
  • Ability to work in-person and on-site, travel occasionally, and work occasional evenings or weekends.
