Job Description

The Acadian Seaplants Limited(ASL) Manufacturing Team is seeking a positive, dependable candidate for the Facilities Maintenance position at our manufacturing facility in Charlesville, Nova Scotia.   • Familiarity in trade related calculations is a must (fractions, decimals, SAE, and Metric adding subtracting, multiplying, and dividing).
  • Methodical with good problem-solving skills, and the ability to propose/apply solutions using sound reasoning.
  • Reliability and Dependability are a must, reliable transport also a must.
  • Skills that reflect and value a team approach, demonstrated reliability, effectiveness, efficiency, and the ability to deliver quality service.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks and timelines.
  • Good oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work with staff of varied backgrounds with a positive, optimistic, solutions-oriented attitude.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform routine facility repair such as: roofing and siding work, repairs to outdoor platforms, stairs, holding tanks and associated buildings and green houses.
  • Operate mower, snow blower, auger, and other needed vehicles.
  • Perform activities including light to medium repairs, demolition and general cleaning as needed.
  • Cut, measure, and install job related materials as per scope of work with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Safely uses hand and power tools.
  • Fit and assemble various configurations in pvc and abs piping and associated fittings.
  • Ensure work is completed according to measurements, specifications, drawings, plans or other instructions.
  • Interior and exterior painting, cleaning, lawn mowing, leaf raking, debris removal, snow removal, and other landscaping duties.
  • Emergency board up / secure of premises.
  • Recognize when specialized knowledge is needed and seek appropriate assistance.
  • Practice good housekeeping always to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite.
  • Work under time restrictions to meet specific timelines.
  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment.
  • Comply with all Acadian Seaplants policies and procedures, as well as legislative requirements.
  • Proactively communicate job site conditions and concerns that may or are affecting completion of the job to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Attend all Acadian Seaplants sponsored training courses.
  • Answers to the Maintenance Manager on site.
Qualifications:Items listed would be considered an asset. Training will be provided to the right candidate.
  • A high school diploma is an asset but not necessary based on candidate experience.
  • Forklift Certification
  • Fall Arrest
  • Written and verbal communication skills, moderate to good math skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge in a windows environment.
Physical Demands:
  • Access and mobility in tight spaces.
  • Working at Heights - over 10 feet, periodically.
  • Dust.
  • Working in extreme weather conditions.
  • Bending, extending, kneeling, crouching, reaching and the ability to lift to and exceeding 22kg (50lbs).
