Job Description

The Role: The Acadian Seaplants (ASL) Manufacturing Team is seeking a positive, dependable, Seaweed Pond Cultivation Technician at our manufacturing facility in Charlesville, Nova Scotia. This is a great opportunity for local candidates who would like to join a strong, motivated team at our world-class, one-of-a kind facility.As an ideal candidate, you are a strong team player with a good work ethic and strong interpersonal skills. Experience in an agricultural or aquaculture facility is an asset, but not required. You must be organized, detail-oriented, and good at recordkeeping. You have a strong commitment to health and safety and quality.The Key Technical Responsibilities: The Seaweed Pond Cultivation Technician is responsible for maintaining the plant health of our sea plants, across 6 production greenhouses and 7 acres of production pond area. Our focus is growing high quality, food-grade Chondrus crispus in a land-based marine plant cultivation facility.More specifically, you will:

  • Set up, monitor, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot pH control systems
  • Perform duties associated with the winter nursery operation including weighting, sanitizing and plant heath care
  • Manage saltwater flushing systems and schedules
  • Manage and apply fertilizer nutrients (systems and schedules)
  • Daily, monitor and record tank environmental data, atmospheric weather data, and consumables inventory data.
  • Collect plant health data and samples for routine analysis.
  • Daily, check and maintain water filtration systems, perform basic tank maintenance and site housekeeping
  • Assist with other site activities and special projects as required, including training as needed
  • Participate in the implementation of quality systems and ensure all operations are managed in a food-grade acceptable environment
  • Coordinate activities with Pond Cleaners, Boom Truck Operator, Cultivation Supervisors and Maintenance personnel when/where required.
  • Support the company’s vision and policies regarding Health & Safety, Corporate Culture, and Environmental Management.
Education/ Competencies:
  • High School completion.
  • Agricultural or Aquacultural studies or production experience are an asset.
