Your ideas have a digital component and you come to the table with creative ways to set your content apart on social media and other digital platforms. You stay connected to the audience and you’re always thinking about what they need.Your journalistic judgment is strong, but you also know when to add a little bit of fun to the mix. You are a team player whose creative spirit adds to the show as a whole.This is a temporary full-time position until April 30 2023.Your role:With direction from the “Island Morning” Producer, the associate producer participates in the production, direction and/or post production of the Charlottetown morning show. This includes booking and researching interviews, editing interviews, as well as producing articles, photos and video for the station website and social media. Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, practices and standards. Initiative and independent judgement are required. There is often a requirement to coordinate the activities of others.The successful candidate will help develop strategies that bring the best of the program’s content to digital platforms including emerging social media platforms and actively participates in using those platforms to share stories.Key tasks:

  • Contributes ideas for program content; participates in the preparation of the program.
  • Assists in developing program content including writing, researching, and/or editing (audio, text, graphics, video).
  • Obtains and organizes technical and production resources required by the program on behalf of all Producers and freelancers.
  • Gathers and edits audio for the show, either in person or over the phone/internet
  • Prepares scripts; ensures adherence to the style and format of the program.
  • Packages stories for online, including preparation of photos, embedding interactive content, vetting copy and adding related stories.
  • Organizes the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants, develops background, introduction, and line of questioning, conducts or arranges for any necessary research, and ensures the briefing of hosts.
  • Maintains contact files.
  • Participates in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.
As required, performs the following tasks:
  • Produce program elements.
  • Assign, direct and coordinate the work of other personnel working on a project for which the Producer is responsible.
  • Edit and mix, or direct the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements.
  • Write continuity, edit text, edit and prepare voice-mail for broadcast.
  • Log programs and music in appropriate information systems.
  • Assist in maintaining a level of communication or rapport with members of the team and newsroom.
  • Perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the newsroom, program unit or station.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in broadcasting or a closely related industry.
  • In depth knowledge of Prince Edward Island.
  • Solid journalistic skills.
  • Excellent production skills.
  • Previous experience as chase producer.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful stories and develop contacts.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to file, online stories and use social media to communicate content.
  • Ability to coordinate newsgathering and rollout with other platforms.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a cross-media, multi-platform programming environment is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends, as required.
  • Ability to participate in a highly creative and collaborative team in a dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated judgement, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to take initiative, be pro-active, and work independently.
  • Ability to work in a high pressure, tight deadline environment without sacrificing creativity or quality.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and to respond to many competing demands in a short space of time.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • A career objective as a radio producer.
  • Curiosity, imagination and flexibility.
