Job Description

PEERS Alliance is Hiring a Social Worker!PEERS Alliance is a community based organization that uses an anti-racist, trauma-informed, and harm-reduction approach. We are looking for an individual who is community-minded and passionate about creating inclusive spaces for community members with higher social needs, gender diverse individuals, and the 2SLGBTQ+ community.About the PositionThe social worker will work in collaboration with the PEERS Alliance team to serve and support the 2SLGBTQ+ community, specifically trans youth, adults, and their families. The social worker will connect with community members and collaborate with programming staff to identify best practices for trauma-informed programming that builds and supports resilience.Requirements of this Position

  • This position requires a criminal record check, a vulnerable sectors background check;
  • Valid licence and winterized vehicle;
  • Comfortable and competent presenting on 2SLGBTQ+ identities and issues impacting 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in a compassionate and patient way to children, adults, and professionals;
  • The ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends
Responsibilities of this Position includeThe position has a variety of responsibilities and duties, which include:
  • Connect with 2SLGBTQ+ Community to improve resiliency and overcome barriers
  • Develop and deliver workshops for service providers, PEI community, and 2SLGBTQ+ youth
  • Offer one-on-one support for high-needs community members, offer group support for gender diverse families to improve resiliency and overcome barriers
  • Offer support to trans and non-binary children, youth and adults and their families or caregivers
  • Evening work is required to support group facilitation for several programs per month.
  • Identify best practices for trauma informed, resilience building into all 2SLGBTQ+ programs
  • Front line work with at-risk community members, offering referrals, system navigation, advocacy, and accompaniment.
  • Other duties as required
Desirable Experience and Assets
  • Knowledge and connection with issues relevant to 2SLGBTQ+ communities, specifically the trans and non-binary community
  • Familiarity with PEI’s support sectors
  • Familiarity with the trans and non-binary community
  • 2+ Years working experience
  • WPATH Certification considered an asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Capacity to work with people from diverse backgrounds/with diverse perspectives
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Willing to work flexible hours (position will include evening work)
  • Experience working with the 2SLGBTQ+ community is an asset
  • A drivers’ licence and a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to speak in French considered an asset
Requirements: The successful applicant must be a registered social worker with the Province of PEI, and hold either:
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) or
  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) with experience working in the field
