Job Description

BIOVECTRA is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.BIOVECTRA has an opening for a Process Development Technician, Biologics. This is a permanent full-time position located in Charlottetown, PEI.The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Operating manual, electronic, pneumatic, or computerized laboratory process equipment.
  • Assisting scientists to carrying out literature searches, designing experiments and preparing research plans.
  • Assisting scientists in development and optimization of fermentation/purification processes for biopharmaceutical products.
  • Assisting scientists in preparation, testing, and maintenance of cell banks.
  • Assisting scientists in developing downstream isolation and purification processes for both small molecule and protein products.
  • Assisting scientists during process transfer from laboratory scale to production scale.
  • Performing in-process tests: culture purity testing, culture quantification, Gram-staining, protein quantification and SDS PAGE analysis, HPLC, etc.
  • Assisting in writing Batch Production Records, cGMP protocols, work instructions and experimental work progress reports.
  • Maintaining laboratory, ordering laboratory supplies and spare parts.
  • Calibrating and maintaining of laboratory equipment.
  • Providing equipment training to new employees and, or summer students if needed.
  • Complying with approved safety practices for the laboratory facility.
  • Cleaning equipment and work area.
  • Adhering to BioVectra Health and Safety Policy as outlined in CP0010 Occupational Health and Safety Policy, Statements of Principle, and Responsibilities and all Purchasing SOP’s.
  • Additional duties assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor’s request.
The successful candidate for this position should have:
  • College diploma in Biotechnology or equivalent Microbiology or Biochemistry discipline.
  • Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or Biochemistry an asset.
  • Aseptic handling techniques, sampling, and the analysis of materials.
  • Biochemical assays and purification procedures.
  • Related industry experience in the field of fermentation, protein purification.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability and willingness to work after hours and weekends if required.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Rotating shift work as required.
