Job Description

LDAPEI is hiring tutors for the following programs:The Island Reader Program· Tutors deliver a phonemic based reading and spelling program, to students who have reading disabilities/difficulties.

  • The program runs Monday through Thursday with one-hour sessions; 50 minutes of tutoring and 10 minutes of preparation.
  • This is a one-to-one tutoring program
The JUMP Math Program
  • Tutors deliver a math program one-to-one. The program relies on the tutor making the learning process fun while developing the confidence of each student.
  • The program runs Monday through Thursday with one-hour sessions; 50 minutes of tutoring and 10 minutes of preparation.
Specialized tutoring· Tutors support older students with learning disabilities in coping with schoolwork. Focus is on academic subjects such as, but not limited to, math, science, and writing.· Tutoring may include helping students with disabilities/difficulties in executive functioning and time management, for example.· Tutors of high school subjects should have a strong foundation in the subject.Qualifications:Tutors should have· A love of learning.· significant experience leading and supporting learning as a k-12 teacher, college instructor, k-12 educational assistant, university or college teaching assistant, student support worker, or other high level helping role.· a deep understanding of learning disabilities and how to tailor lessons and support to the needs of the student.· a strong desire to help students succeed.· willingness to learn new programs and new approaches to helping their students.· excellent communication skills.LDAPEI has students seeking tutors in various communities across PEI. Most would like in-person tutoring but some prefer virtual/online. LDAPEI staff will set up tutoring locations in schools and other public locations. Tutoring doesn’t occur in private homes.Job Type: Part-timeSalary: $25.00 per hourBenefits:
