Job Description

Senior Wildlife BiologistTannas Conservation Services Ltd. is looking for a highly skilled senior wildlife biologist who prospers in a small team environment and is seeking an opportunity to develop and lead a highly specialized team. This position will collaborate with colleagues to produce high-quality deliverables for our diverse clientele, with an emphasis on specialty wildlife services focused on conservation, restoration and regulatory approvals. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in wildlife biology and be willing to support our existing BIA workload and regulatory approvals. This position presents the unique opportunity to be on a team of environmental specialists, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow the wildlife program in their area of interest.Position duties: Managing and expanding the wildlife team at TCS. This position will allow for a hybrid of field time and office management time. The position will include wildlife field surveys, project management, technical writing, compiling technical reports, and proposal writing. The ability to perform the following surveys is required: breeding bird, migratory bird, raptor, grouse, mammal, amphibian, reptile, species at risk, nest sweeps, and winter tracking.Skills will be evaluated at the interview stage. This is a job for someone who is self-driven and enjoys multi-disciplinary work and innovative projects.Requirements:

  • Must have a post-secondary degree related to wildlife or biology (a master’s would be an asset)
  • Must be eligible for status under ASPB (P.Biol.)
  • Must have valid class 5 driver’s license and your own vehicle
  • Must have experience using maps and handheld GPS units
  • Must be comfortable and competent working independently and in teams
  • Must be organized and self-driven
  • Must be comfortable working alone on non-remote sites
  • Must be willing to work occasional weekends during the field season
  • Must have experience with Alberta wildlife identification and surveys
  • Must meet the Environment Canada requirements for conducting nest sweeps
  • Must have experience with technical writing (survey reports, BIAs, EIAs, etc.)
  • Experience with wildlife cameras and acoustic monitoring devices is an asset
  • Experience with GIS and statistics is an asset
  • Experience with vegetation ID, wetlands, soils, or regulatory approvals is an asset
  • Experience in a diversity of wildlife species survey techniques is an asset
