Job Description

Park Place Senior Living is looking for a part time experienced Relief Cook / Dining Room Server, to join our team at The Wellington. The Wellington is a premier Park Place Community, located in Medicine Hat, AB. With Independent and Supportive Living, The Wellington is perfect for seniors seeking to maintain independence while enjoying access to services and amenities. Serving up fresh, home-cooked meals, in our beautiful dining room, The Wellington promotes a balanced and nutritious diet through rotating menus that offer a variety of appealing choices for lunchamp; dinner along with breakfast options available in the assisted living neighborhoods of the community. This is a dynamic position that requires the competencies of the Cook position, yet provides a better opportunity to build relationships with residents while embracing the Dining Room Server role. Under the direction of the Food Services Manager, the Cook is responsible for preparing meals that contribute to a balanced, nutritious, and appealing dining experience, for the residents, who have made The Wellington their home. The cook provides leadership to the Food Service staff and promotes food safety while maintaining an orderly and sanitary work area. Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to, placing food and supply orders along with inventory control. The Cook anticipate the needs and treats all residents and their guests with dignity, while actively demonstrating an attitude of caring. The Cook ensures their commitment to resident safety and Park Place Senior Livings’ “culture of safety”. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares and serves daily meals and any special meals according to menus, recipes production sheets, diets, and schedules, using portion control to avoid waste under the direction of the Food Services Manager and/or Dietician. Prepares meats, vegetables, and other foods for cooking.
  • Estimates food requirements to eliminate waste and leftovers.
  • Responsible for direction of staff engaged in food preparation food service, and overall cleanliness and operation of the kitchen.
  • Participates in and assists with the preparation of food for special functions.
  • Check’s equipment and work area frequently in order to maintain a safe, sanitary, and orderly environment.
  • Report’s repair and maintenance requirements to supervisor or maintenance worker.
  • Signs for deliveries when necessary and ensures food items are received in good condition and are stored properly.
  • Completes and renews Safe Food Handling Course as required by legislation and PPSL policy.
  • Responsible for attending related in-service, education programs and resident food committee as required.
  • Responsible for the safe performance of all duties.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.
HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible to read, understand and comply with Park Place’s and provincially mandated Occupational Health and Safety policies and safe work practices.
  • Involved in all aspects of the Health and Safety Program including:
    • Uses safe work procedures,
    • Promotes health and safety policy and awareness,
    • Makes safety suggestions.
    • Reads OHS minutes posted.
  • Responsible to take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of Residents, self, other employees, and the general public.
  • Reports any near miss, injury, accident or equipment damage to supervisor immediately and
  • completes required reports.
  • Corrects and/or reports unsafe conditions.
  • Sets a good example.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Formal training in quantity food preparation from a recognized training institution or school.
  • Must have valid and current Safe Food Handling certification.
  • Previous experience cooking in an institutional / long term care environment is cooking preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to work in teams collaboratively and communicate with others in a respectful manner.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Cook spends nearly their entire shift standing or walking. The Cook position requires a significant amount of lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching, standing, and reaching. The Cook must be able to safely lift and carry a maximum of 50 lbs. Powered by JazzHR
