Job Description

Forsite Consultants Ltd is actively looking for a GIS Specialist with experience and demonstrated aptitude in GIS analytics, resultant building, webmap tools, map creation and python scripting, for a position in our Ontario operations.WHO WE AREForsite is a dynamic forest management services company serving government and industry clients for 35 years. You will have exceptional problem solving, written and oral communications skills with an ability to translate complex analysis results into practical knowledge that supports informed decision making.As a GIS Specialist you will be responsible for the following:

  • Organize, coordinate and assist in land and resource development projects that utilize GIS.
  • Efficiently perform GIS analysis in the delivery of land management projects.
  • Present data on pdf and web maps using ArcGIS Server JavaScript API and ArcGIS Web AppBuilder with the ability to develop custom widgets
  • Support in house and client use of ArcMap Collector
  • Documentation, quality control, and incremental improvement over time.
SKILLS YOU BRINGREQUIREMENTS:
  • Post-secondary education with a degree or diploma in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience (ideally forestry).
  • Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS tools and integration with Python for efficiency and repeatability
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities (analytics using math/basic statistics will be required).
  • Broad understanding and implementation of land management concepts and practices.
  • A professional, friendly and courteous manner (service & team oriented).
In addition, the ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Experience using ArcGIS Server and web mapping tools such as the JavaScript API and Web AppBuilder
  • Use of Pandas in Python for analysis and reporting
  • Problem solving skills, initiative, and an intuitive ability.
  • Strong organizational skills and technical writing skills.
  • Self-direction, flexibility and an ability to work under limited direct supervision.
  • Good technical understanding of databases and Microsoft Office™ applications.
