Reporting to the Labour Relations Manager, Human Resources, you will:· Work closely with human resources colleagues and leadership to identify, plan, coordinate, and implement employee health and wellness resources, initiatives, and strategies.· Manage disability case files, (occupational and non-occupational), including facilitating a safe, timely, and sustainable return to work, workplace modifications, and accommodations for ill, injured, or differently abled employees.· Support employees and assist in the oversight of employee attendance by liaising with human resources, supervisors/managers, unions, and external contacts in a manner that builds trust, credibility, and rapport.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Develops, implements and monitors safe stay at work and/or return to work plans for employees with injury or illness.
  • Coordinate disability case management of ill and injured employees, including early intervention and provision of services and referrals, to implement cost effective strategies to decrease absence and facilitate return to work or stay at work.
  • Provides advice and manages disability management processes for MTU employees including topics such as policy and procedures, enrolment, acceptance/denial of disability claims, reinstatements, individual/group transfers, disability management practices and other related matters.
  • In collaboration with Occupational Health and Safety, provide services to employees that require injury, medical, and/or rehabilitation support resulting in their safe return to productive employment. Assesses and facilitates return to work plans for all employees as per the timelines.
  • Supports wellness programs by implementing related initiatives. Provides mental health related education and ensures timely execution of wellness initiatives. Updates the Manager of any issues and provides solutions towards betterment of wellness services.
  • Assesses employees’ fitness for work based on bona fide medical and functional information.
  • Develops, in collaboration with the employee and their care providers, individualized plans that facilitate an injured or ill employee’s return to work or stay at work that meet’s the employee’s functional ability.
  • Promotes best practices in disability management through communication, provision of expert advice and training of employees, managers, union representatives, HR and others, as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date records of all employees enrolled in the disability management program.
  • Participates as a member of the HR team, as assigned. Assists in the delivery of designated HR-related training programs. Supports the Director and Manager in developing HR reports and metrics, as needed.
  • Provides input in the development of department goals, work plans and budget. Participates in HR initiatives, activities and projects. Takes a lead role on designated benefits projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, with credentials in Disability Management or Occupational Health & Wellness plus sound progressive experience in the areas of disability management coordination and support of wellness and disability management processes and programs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation Act, Human Rights, Privacy legislation and collective agreement language.
  • Sound experience in the development and executions of disabilities claims and case management, and employee medical accommodation programs.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and to contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to all levels of staff.
  • Outstanding time management, planning, organization, coordination skills, and an aptitude for detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional decision making, judgement, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and ability to build trust and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Proficient in MS Office and related technologies such as HR information systems.
  • Chartered Professional of Human Resources (CPHR) designation, or equivalent is an asset.
