The City of Delta is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team and share in our commitment to lead the way in public service excellence.This regular full-time position involves technical and clerical work checking building plans for adherence to Provincial building code and City by-law requirements. Responsibilities involve examining plans for proposed construction related to single family and two-family dwellings for compliance with City and Provincial building and zoning regulations and by-laws. The incumbent lists non-conforming items of submitted plans, proposed projects and non-conformance issues with applicants and others as required, clarifies problem areas, interprets and explains Codes, bylaws and regulations, answers counter and telephone enquiries concerning building and zoning regulations, and makes recommendations for revised plans using electronic plan application process software and coordinates the processing of building permit applications through City departments using this same software as well as a Tempest platform. The Plans Examiner provides information to inspectors and other City employees related to buildings under construction. The position performs related and special departmental work as required. Complex or controversial problems and interpretations are discussed with a superior.Desirable Training & Experience:Completion of grade 12, supplemented by a Certificate in Building Technology from an Institute of Technology, graduation with a Diploma in Building Technology preferred, plus some experience related to construction, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working experience as a municipal Plans Examiner is preferred. Proficiency with Windows-based computer applications is also desired.Required Licences, Certificates & Registrations:
