We value and take the zero-waste challenge seriously and strive to help our clients reduce their environmental footprint.Did you knowAccording to the Environmental Protection Agency, in 2018 about 17 million tons of textile waste ended up in landfills in the USA. As we at CMRI strive to reach environmental goals and support our local economy and communities, we are seeking Volunteers to help us! Please consider supporting our effort by helping us repurpose our good-condition upholstery fabric to reduce the impact of textile waste.This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your artistic thinking and sewing skills to create new pieces from free recycled upholstery fabric. We have an always-changing variety of fabrics, from velvet to tweed, thinner fabric suitable even for simple clothing, or thicker fabric suitable for new durable items. We do fabric quality control checks beforehand and launder the material on-site before distributing it. As a volunteer, you may need to pick up bags of fabric from our head office in Delta (Annacis Island), or depending on your location, we may be able to drop them off to you. Other than that, this volunteer position is fully remote. As a Volunteer, you will be able to work from the comfort of your home and on your own schedule entirely.Note: we can only supply the upholstery fabric (other supplies such as sewing machines and thread will not be provided). You can use your own pattern or find lots of free ones online!If you would like to make throw cushions or pet beds, we can also provide the polyester filling for them.The Key Activities for this Volunteer position include:
