Providing strategic direction and oversight for the ministry’s compliance function (accounting officers) by ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of ministry financial systems and compliance with legislation, policies and procedures Being the liaison between the Ministry and auditors (OAG, CIAS) Providing strategic advice in financial operations and program financial support (student aid, apprenticeship, foundational learning supports) Effective leadership and management of a team of professionals Supporting staff engagement, encouraging collaboration and high performance Maintaining strategic and collaborative relationships with other ministries Contributing financial expertise and strategic guidance to ministry projects and teamsTo be successful in this role, you will demonstrate excellent comprehensive knowledge of financial management, financial systems, management control systems and risk management. You will apply your knowledge of the CPA Public Sector Accounting Standards, Canadian Auditing Standards and Financial Best practices every day. Knowledge and experience in Accounting Officer procedures and practices, 1GX functional processes and Treasury Board Directives is necessary for this role. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, strategic thinking and relationship building skills are necessary for your success in this senior management role. Your ability to foster a collaborative, positive working environment, and to support employee development will help you be the leader of this high performing team. Minimum Recruitment StandardsRequired:an Accounting designation (CPA or legacy designations CA, CMA, CGA) University Degree in a related field such as Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, or Public Administration, plus a minimum of six years progressively responsible related experience including supervisory experience.
