RolePut your extensive planning and analytic skills to good use by joining a dynamic team of professionals in the Intergovernmental International Relations (IRR) of the Executive Council ministry.Reporting to the Director, Americas, and Europe, your role as the Intergovernmental Officer supports the coordination, planning, and research of projects in the Americas and Europe. You will work closely with the Senior Intergovernmental Officers to assist with activities and functions that serve the International Relations Department unit as a whole.High-level responsibilities include:Liaising with intergovernmental contacts (e.g., foreign governments, the federal government, and other Alberta government departments) to support issues and initiatives relevant to the department #39;s and branch #39;s interests and responsibilities in the region. Liaise with the Protocol Office, the Mission and Visits Planning Unit or other contacts, as required, to contribute to the planning and coordination of programs for foreign government visitors and outgoing Alberta missions. Providing research support on specific projects using a variety of primary sources such as Canadian and foreign governments, records, available publications, and through contacts with other departments. Support the preparation of briefings for elected officials on the intricacies of organizations in the Americas and Europe alongside Senior Intergovernmental Officers. Contributing to the identification and research of economic and political issues or energy / environmental policy initiatives which impact Alberta #39;s interests in the Americas and Europe. Maintaining knowledge of current international events, understanding the potential impact of issues on Alberta interests. Ensuring electronic and paper records are stored in accordance with branch, departmental, and government standards, including filing and archiving of such records in a timely manner. Supporting the planning and coordination of incoming visits and outgoing missions involving elected officials and/or the Premier. Conducting research as assigned to support the preparation of briefings for senior officials and ministers in advance of visits, reflecting relevant economic and political information along with current issues and Alberta #39;s interests.QualificationsMinimum Requirements:University graduation in Public Administration, Public Relations, Political Science, Social Science, Canadian Studies, or related discipline plus two (2) years progressively responsible related experience.Equivalencies:An equivalent combination of education and significant experience in a field related to the position may be considered on a one for one 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.Example:2-year related diploma plus 4 years of related experience 1-year related diploma plus 5 years of related experienceAssets:Experience in project management or policy development Knowledge of key concepts of international trade policy and international economic relations Understanding of the current international, economic, and social issuesAPS CompetenciesCompetencies are behaviours that are essential to reach our goals in serving Albertans.
