Job Description

If you have a trade certificate as an electrician or millwright with 7-10 years hands-on maintenance and facilities management experience. Emerson Automation Solutions – Appleton Group Canada has an opportunity for you. We are looking for a tradesperson with well-rounded knowledge of building equipment, repairs and expertise in reading mechanical drawings, troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment to fill our role of Facility Maintenance Technician. Based in our Elmira, ON location, reporting to the Electrical Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing facility maintenance and day-to-day operations of the Appleton Group Canada’s facility in Elmira. The incumbent will oversee and manage all aspects of facility operations and services by developing and implementing procedures, preventive maintenance schedules, and contingency plans that ensure continuous operation and certification of systems within a clean and safe environment.AS A FACILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN, YOU WILL:

  • Ensure that the building, building infrastructure, building services, production & warehouse equipment and racking are in good and safe working condition
  • Maintain 100% facility uptime, Preventative Maintenance (PM) scheduling, review and monitoring of adherence to PM schedule, identify and track trends, implement best practices
  • Execute equipment troubleshooting, repairs, refurbishments, and overhaul
  • Support production processes by reducing machinery downtime and ensuring that problems are diagnosed quickly, and machines are repaired in a timely fashion
  • Complete corrective maintenance work for various properties (roofing, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, sprinkler, compressor, ventilation, lighting, waste, and automation) as well as various project work
  • Complete tasks related to the proper maintenance of stores equipment as well as general maintenance services (janitorial, waste removal, snow removal, landscaping, etc.)
  • Establish and maintain critical spare parts and tool inventory; purchase key equipment and/or maintenance tool
  • Manage site co-ordination for facility projects construction/renovation commencement, completion dates, contractor, consultant site visits, staff relocation, and equipment relocation
  • Assist in the re-engineering of existing production lines or equipment to ensure that continuous improvement and/or safety objectives are met
  • Support Operations and Engineering on matters relating to equipment maintenance, prototyping, electrical test, and validation
  • Oversee equipment installation projects (site prep, installation, hook-up, and commissioning)
  • Work closely with executive management team to ensure new facilities development plans align and meet targeted projects dates
  • Review invoicing based on contract type, terms and conditions
  • Maintain accurate service records of equipment replacement and repairs
  • Perform periodic inspections, conduct audits of facilities and equipment to identify deficiencies
  • Maintain building security systems and access
  • Assist with the implementation of facility policies and procedures
  • Coordinate administrative tasks related to facilities, close work orders, create purchase orders, approve invoices, metrics reporting
  • Oversee and provide support as necessary to administrative staff in the day-to-day processing of related contract paperwork such as work orders, invoices, proposals, and purchase orders
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and suppliers for services and repairs to facility and equipment

  • Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the business related to Facility Maintenance.

You are calm and productive, even when things are up in the air and deal constructively with problems that do not have clear solutions or outcomes.REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • Valid Skilled Trade License: Industrial Electrician (442A), Construction & Maintenance Electrician (309A), or Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A).
  • 7-10 years recent hands-on maintenance and facilities management experience with well-rounded knowledge of building equipment and repairs
  • Must have a strong knowledge of building systems, including electrical and mechanical systems
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to shift priorities on an ad hoc basis and flexibility with working hours
  • Expertise in reading mechanical drawings, and troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Experience implementing process & procedural improvement in maintaining all building services and managing 3rd party contractors
  • Solid understanding of health and safety regulations and practices (Occupational Health & Safety Act - OHSA and Ontario Accessibility Regulations - AODA).
  • Clear understanding of safety and work procedures, as well as quality assurance practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada – sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of ‘LEAN’ manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with all levels
  • Good knowledge of industry practices, techniques, standards and certifications is an asset ( ESA, CSA, TSSA, ISO, PSHSR, Ontario Fire Code)
  • Forklift and aerial work platform licenses.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative; strong problem solving with ability to approach problems logically and seek innovative solutions
  • Personal responsibility to meet commitments, ability to prioritize, self-start, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with no supervision
  • Strong decision-making and analytical skills and ability to seek solutions to operational barriers and contribute to constant quality improvement
  • Proven organizational skills with a positive, team player emphasis and strong customer service focus with a drive to solve problems
  • Outstanding attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
