Job Description

Martins Processing Ltd. operates a State-of-the-Art facility in Elmira, Ontario. Here we produce our famous Crispy Apple Chips, Apple Cider, fresh sliced apples for commercial bakeries and our newest production line, apple puree. We are presently looking for a full-time permanent FSQA Team Lead. We desire motivated candidates who are looking for an opportunity to learn and grow with our company. The FSQA Team Lead reports to the Director, Food Safety and Innovation and is primarily responsible to uphold the document control and verification program for the BRC/ HACCP system, as well as for the day-to-day supervision of the QC Technicians. This position may be required to assist with QC duties for the Elmira Processing Plant in the absence of the QC Technician.RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily supervision of QC Technicians including absence management and training
  • Assist with resolution of quality issues in conjunction with QC Technicians, Lead Hands; escalates to Management when necessary
  • Verification and control of FSQA records; maintain an organized records system
  • Issue C of A’s for finished product as required
  • Act as a member of the internal audit team and conduct internal audits
  • Act as a member of the HACCP Team and participate in monthly BRC meeting
  • Assist with lab coverage if needed; perform all product quality testing as required
  • Physically perform onsite QC inspections
  • Assist with CAPA action items in response to non-conformances and QC Holds
  • As time permits, assist other team members working in the processing plant and other duties as required
Qualifications of Ideal Candidate:
  • Bachelors degree in Biology, Microbiology, Food Science or other related discipline
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience in food, pharmaceutical, or GLP
  • Previous work experience directly related to BRC/GFSI/ HACCP food manufacturing
  • Detail oriented and ability to troubleshoot
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to perform basic math including calculation of averages and percentage
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Leadership skills and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong communication and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Google docs)
