Job Description

Position Scope:NACG is looking for Boat Captains to work on a remote mining site in the Fort McMurray area. You must be well-organized and favor safety above everything else.Site: Fort HillsShift: 14x7Accommodations: Camp ProvidedFlights: Provided to and from Calgary or Edmonton to siteTHIS IS A 8 MONTH TEMPORARY POSITION from MARCH 1, 2023 to OCTOBER 1, 2023.Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance to all company, client and legislated safety and environmental policies
  • Reviewing safe work plans/ hazard assessment prior to job commencement
  • Maintain and properly use safety equipment, including PPE
  • Take corrective action to mitigate immediate hazards, where safe to do so
  • Actively take part in the NACG safety program, FLRA’s, Safety meetings, SOP review process, investigations, near miss reports
  • Keeping the work area clean
  • Report fit for work
  • Complete all forms / reports/ permits as required
  • Operating company vehicles to move items/manpower around the job and between sites
  • Pre-use inspection of equipment
  • Lead by example
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years’ experience working on the water
  • Forklift operating certificate
  • 60 Ton Master Captains ticket required
  • FA, MED A3 ticket
  • Rigging certificate
  • Confined Space cert
  • OSSA/CSTS
  • Demonstrate safety at all times
  • Marine Construction experience an asset
  • Large boat operation
  • Marine mechanical knowledge
  • Boom truck cert
  • Heavy equipment operation an asset
  • Excellent communication and communication skills
Summary:All successful candidates must:
  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Have experience as requested in the job description above
  • Be subject to Random Testing at: Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
  • Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing:
  • Breath Alcohol Test
  • Urine Drug Test
  • Fitness-to-Work Health Assessment
  • Audiometric Testing
  • Vision Screening
All successful candidates MUST provide the following items prior to confirmation of their start date:
  • CSO or BSO Certification
  • CSTS Certification and OSSA Regional only required if candidate does not have the above certification
  • Copy of Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Copy of recent Driver’s Abstract
  • VOID cheque/direct deposit form
