Job Description

Waypoints is a registered, non-profit charity that has been operating in Fort McMurray since 1982. Waypoints offers facilities, programs and services for people that have experienced, or are experiencing domestic and/or sexual violence. Waypoints also provides the community with public awareness events, initiatives, and educational programs to increase the prevention of domestic and sexual violence in the Wood Buffalo region. Waypoints owns and operates Unity House, an Emergency Women’s Shelter, a Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, an Outreach Centre for domestic violence and counselling services, the Opportunities for Change Centre, the Sexual Assault Healing Centre, and the Compass, home of our Second Stage Shelter for women in need of transitional housing, as well as open-market, affordable housing.POSITION SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Opportunities for Change Program Manager, this position provides support and education in the format of groups. Participants are provided with supportive information on issues of abuse, self-esteem, goal setting, anger management and self-care.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESØ Promote a positive and healthy environment for participants by acting as a caring and profession role model.Ø Provide appropriate information and referrals to participants. Responsible for facilitating program for mandated and non-mandated participants. Responsible for collecting updated information in video, book and other print forms to accommodate all topics provided in programs. Maintain accurate program attendance records and complete statistical information forms.Ø Conduct participant intake appointments & complete all necessary paper work associated with such appointments. Prepare and submit program reports as requested by the Manager.Ø Other related duties as assigned by the Manager.SKILLS/EXPERTISE REQUIREDØ Strong ability to facilitate groups and deal with the group dynamics associated with Offender Groups.Ø Provide support to participants in a confident, skillful and sensitive manner. Requires a comprehensive knowledge of the topic of family violence and abuse.Ø Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and problem-solving skillsØ Knowledge of community resources.Ø Ability to network with other community organizations.EDUCATION:Degree in Social Sciences is requiredEXPERIENCE:2 years directly related experienceLICENSES/CERTIFICATES:Registered Social Worker in Alberta is preferredCriminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checksValid Alberta Driver’s LicenseStandard First Aid and Level “C” CPRSuicide Prevention Certificate (ASIST)WORKING CONDITIONSThe wage for this full-time position is $32.00 per hour plus a living allowance of $6.40 per hour worked, to a maximum of $480 bi-weekly.Position will be required to work 37.5 hours per week with ability to flex hours of work to accommodate position requirements including evenings and weekends.RCMP vulnerable sector check and Human Services check requiredMandatory proof of full Covid-19 vaccination required (by submitting a copy of provincial vaccination record), OR agreement to providing 2 negative covid-19 tests per week at the employee’s cost.
