Join our team of Manitobas best as we continue to build a company that supports innovation,commitment and customer service.We are seeking a Mechanical Technician to join our Northern Generation Department in Gillam, Manitoba. You will performmaintenance, installation, inspection and commissioning to all mechanical generation, transmission and auxiliary equipment andfacilities within the Northern Generation Department.The opportunity to work at the Northern Generation Department (NGD) in Gillam has excellent benefits and allows you towork with exciting & diverse teams. See below for more details.Responsibilities:
  • Will perform maintenance, installation, inspection and commissioning to all mechanical generation, transmission and auxiliary
equipment, systems and facilities.
  • Will troubleshoot, trace faults and carry out repairs under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Ensure that all work carried out under their direction is of the highest quality, is completed within established timeframes and
complies with accepted and applicable standards.
  • Provide leadership to motivate and instill a positive working environment within the work group and will participate actively and
positively in the development of the team and achievement of the teams goals.
  • Provide direction and training to Technicians, Trainees, Helpers, Tradespeople and other staff assigned to the team.
  • Will actively participate in and support all safety, environmental and corporate rules, regulations and programs and ensure that
all are understood and adhered to by members of the work group under their direction.
  • Will report any incidents or situations that may be in violation of any safety, environmental and corporate rules, regulations
and programs to the Mechanical Supervisor or delegate.
  • Will operate various machine shop tools and equipment as required.
  • Responsible for the proper use and care of test equipment, instruments and special tools
  • Remain current with the development of new technologies.
  • Will be on standby to deal with problems arising outside normal working hours.
  • Compile maintenance records, in accordance with Work Management System (WMS) standards.
  • Using the EAM CMMS, enter detailed notifications identifying work, accurately record time and keep descriptive work order
notes for all jobs.
  • Interpret schematics and prints to facilitate troubleshooting procedures.
  • Prepare detailed maintenance procedures.
  • Obtain permit authority and perform standby duties.
Qualifications:
  • Possess a Manitoba Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic and completion of Manitoba Hydros Training
Program for Mechanical Technicians or equivalent as determined by Manitoba Hydro, plus two years experience as aMANITOBA HYDRO IS COMMITTED TO DIVERSITY AND EMPLOYMENT EQUITY Reference Code: CO56633893-01mechanical journeyperson.
  • Familiar with the use of measuring instruments, devices and interpretation of schematic and construction drawings.
  • Be thoroughly conversant with safe working practices including the use of protective cards, locking devices, etc.
  • Familiar with the operation of lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, cutting torches.
  • Perform welding operations of a non-structural nature as required.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of the theory and operation of hydraulic turbines, compressors, pumps and other related
equipment. Be capable of adapting to new equipment and procedures.
  • Possess the ability to systematically trouble shoot problems including looking up equipment history through EAM, AMPS and
SCII files, enter notes and write reports on findings.
  • Working knowledge of EAM
  • Required to have a mechanical aptitude to satisfy all requirements of the position.
  • Be physically capable of performing all the duties of the position and work under adverse weather conditions, temperatures,
and under emergency conditions.
  • Be familiar with, and adhere to, Federal and Provincial Regulations and practices related to WHMIS and the Transportation of
Dangerous Goods.
  • Possess an approved set of hand tools pertaining to the trade.
  • Capable of working harmoniously with others and accept functional guidance from various sources as noted in Function and
Nature of Position.
  • Ability to provide direction and effective training to junior personnel, and to plan, organize and schedule work activities.
  • Capable of communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Familiar with corporation policies and the union agreement.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Manitoba Drivers Licence with appropriate classification, minimum class 5.
