Job Description

Objective: We are looking for a well-spoken and respectful Community Relations professional to represent Signal Gold and work with local communities and government for our Goldboro Gold project in Nova Scotia.Job Description:Position: Community Relations Coordinator- Nova Scotia (Goldboro)Location: Flexible (must be able to travel for meetings and to local communities in and around Goldboro)Reporting to: Environment, Compliance and Social Responsibilities ManagerClosing Date: August 15, 2022Duration/ Employment type: Multiyear contract or independent consultantDuties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Government Relations & Policy

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships at all levels of government which encompasses federal, provincial, and municipal government engagement both bureaucratic and political level.
  • Coordinate meetings with Ministers, Senior Government Officials and political offices
  • Awareness of existing and evolving government policies and programs that may positively/negatively impact the operations of Signal Gold in Nova Scotia including but not limited to matters such as Mining Royalty Review and Critical Minerals Strategy.
Municipality of the District of Guysborough (MODG) * Maintain active communications sharing with the Municipality of the District of Guysborough.
  • Oversee the implementation of the MODG Community Benefits Agreement including participation in a committee to oversee the distribution of grants & scholarships.
  • Goldboro Regional Communication & Community Liaison Committee
  • Maintain active communications sharing with the Community Liaison Committee
  • Maintain Goldboro Gold Project - Community Facebook Page regarding information that is important for residents
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a project website
  • Plan, organize and implement community engagement sessions
  • Coordinate the preparation of project newsletters for distribution to surrounding communities
Mi’kmaq RelationsParticipant/Documentation for all Mi’kmaq engagement/relationship activities including but not limited to:
  • Advancement of Mutual Benefits Agreement with Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs
  • Information sharing & requests with KMKNO
  • Information sharing & responding to information requests Native Council of Nova Scotia and the Maritime Aboriginal Peoples Council
  • Information sharing & documentation of efforts (Sipekne’katik, Membertou, & Millbrook)
  • Information sharing with Government of Nova Scotia representatives with responsibility for Mi’kmaq engagement including the Office of Ln’u Affairs and Geo Sciences & Mining Branch.
  • Documentation for Mi’kmaq Working Groups and participation where necessary
  • Education & Training Working Group
  • Financial Benefits Working Group
  • Environmental Priorities Working Group
  • Mi’kmaq Women Working Group (including but not limited to Employee Accommodations)
  • Participate in CCAB/PAR certification
  • Documentation of all community/government interaction in Borealis
Mi’kmaq Cultural Awareness
  • Work with Vice President Human Resources on program & policy development related to Mi’kmaq Cultural awareness
  • Work with Vice President Human Resources to identify and establish appropriate Mi’kmaq Cultural Awareness training module for all employees at the Goldboro Gold Project
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a database of local and Indigenous prospective employees
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a database of local and Indigenous prospective contractors (jointly with the Goldboro Gold Project’s Supply Chain group)
ESG Strategy Implementation
  • participate in ESG programming
Industry Organizations
  • MANS – Mining Association of Nova Scotia - Follow Mining Association communications and share information accordingly with Signal Gold Senior Management Team
  • MSNS – Mining Society of Nova Scotia – Follow Mining Society communications and share information accordingly with Signal Gold Senior Management Team
Human Resources
  • Workforce Planning & Development - Provide support to Vice President HR to develop relationships with appropriate individuals and organizations to support workforce development in Nova Scotia including but not limited to Nova Scotia Community College, St. FX (Antigonish), Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia Works (Career Connections)Qualifications
  • 10+ years experience in a similar role
  • Formal training in public consultation, IAP2 certification or equivalent
  • Experience in the resource industry considered an asset
  • A degree in communications, a certification in public consultation or equivalent
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate clearly and effectively to different audiences
  • A demonstrated history of and commitment to integrity and respect
  • A high level of organization, planning and attention to detail
  • A positive, stakeholder orientated attitude is essential
  • Proficient in Microsoft office programs is essential including strong writing and presentation abilities
  • Experience with ESG systems considered an asset
  • Driver’s licence, access to a vehicle and clean driver’s abstract
  • Work remotely
  • Ability to travel to local communities on a frequent basis
