ABOUT SIGNAL GOLDSignal Gold is a TSX and OTCQX-listed gold mining, development, and exploration company, focused in the top-tier Canadian mining jurisdictions of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The Company is advancing the Goldboro Gold Project in Nova Scotia, a significant growth project subject to a positive Feasibility Study (Please see the ‘NI 43-101 Technical Report and Feasibility Study for the Goldboro Gold Project, Eastern Goldfields District, Nova Scotia’ on January 11, 2022 for further details). Signal Gold also operates mining and milling operations in the prolific Baie Verte Mining District of Newfoundland which includes the fully permitted Pine Cove Mill, tailings facility and deep-water port, as well as ~15,000 hectares of highly prospective mineral property, including those adjacent to the past producing, high-grade Nugget Pond Mine at its Tilt Cove Gold Project.Safety, Integrity, ReliabilitySignal Gold Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.We are looking for a dynamic Individual to lead the Health and Safety function in providing companywide standards, guidance, and support to Anaconda’s operations and development and exploration projects. This role will develop best practice policies and monitor compliance and continuous improvements to these policies and provide consolidated Safety and Health information statistics and insight to senior management and the Board of Directors.Position: Health and Safety ManagerLocation: Flexible (Travel to operations and projects in Atlantic Canada)Reporting to: The President and CEOClosing Date: August 15, 2022Duration: Permanent Full TimeSalary: Competitive among peers in industry; based on experience.Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Mentor and educate operations specific H&S employees and site H&S representatives and nominees
  • Be accountable to take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislated regulations, policies, work standards, and governance requirements with respect to the Health and Safety (H&S) function of the Company.
  • Provide key corporate and operational support for company-wide Health & Safety improvement activities, to include leading and participating in:
  • Development of Company-wide standards and policies
  • Company-wide H&S training initiatives o Assist in the development of site-specific education requirements
  • Develop and implement company-wide health and safety technology solutions
  • Develop health and safety critical risk strategies and fatality prevention approaches
  • Participate in relevant external association activities and initiatives
  • Continuously improve the capacity building between site (s) and with the development of operations (exploration, projects, etc.) in the areas of Health and Safety and develop a quality Health and Safety Management System to support the Company’s H&S goals. * Conducting regular/frequent H&S inspections and assurance audits of operational and project sites.
  • Monitor that incident are appropriately identified and tracked and investigated in a timely manner through proper investigation protocols to establish root causes and recommendation.
  • Provide internal communication and advice to support the development of alignment in the organization around Health and Safety requirements and expectations of performance.
  • Provide the required level of support, insight, analysis, and advice to the business to understand relevance of Health and Safety performance goals
  • Initiate discussions regarding Health and Safety priorities, integration, and advice regarding policies, plans, programs (models and frameworks), and support their execution
  • Formulate recommendations for H&S direction, strategy, and policies based on this role holder’s analysis and understanding of anticipated legislation and the input from relevant 3rd party experts
  • Recommend/develop policies and standards to be carried out by the business regarding H&S
  • Collecting operational H&S data; analyzing incident and injury/illness trends; industrial hygiene trends and incident alerts in order to develop KPIs and company-wide reporting
  • Set the example for others by functioning as a team player with a demonstrable passion for safety, strong work ethic, and being able to prioritize and balance multiple tasks for Anaconda’s respective areas and stages of operation. * Regular site visits to the Point Rousse operation are required * This role will transition to incorporate the Goldboro gold project and building out a safety team and safety infrastructure such as a safety manual, protocols for visitors contractors etc. support the construction phase and operational readiness phase. The role will be re-evaluated at that time to include Goldboro specific responsibilities * Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Formal degree (Bachelor or Master) or diploma in Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or another related field
  • Ability to travel (up to 70%) and at times on short notice
  • 15+ years of health and safety work experience in mining, construction Industry
  • 3+ years leading a safety department or project H&S team
  • Certified in safety training, considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills are required, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in the development and implementation of H&S processes, systems, standards, and procedures
  • Experience in the development of project H&S execution plans or development of the overarching H&S program for an operational site
  • Experience in pre-qualification of construction contractors and EPCM contractors, and auditing of contractor H&S programs
  • Experience in conducting H&S incident investigations
  • Solid understanding of regulatory standards, and good practices related to Health and Safety performance and reporting areas
  • Understanding of risk assessment and risk management frameworks and understanding of the linkages between Health and Safety performance and business risk / business opportunity and ability to scope appropriate activities to achieve necessary Health and Safety performance.
  • Understanding of the economics and structure of the mining business, and the linkages and limitations between responsible Health and Safety performance and mining business performance.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of H&S training programs required
