Job Description

IntroductionWJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East and Poland.WJ Groundwater strives to meet client expectations for dewatering system performance and execute projects on time and on budget. Yard operations provide an essential and pivotal support to site operations in achieving these objectives.Key role objectivesThe Water System Technician supports our business by preparing dewatering, water management systems and other equipment for delivery to site. High quality workmanship is critical in ensuring long term reliability of our systems.First and foremost, the Water System Technician will acts as an integral part of the Yard Operations Team in ensuring that the overall team objectives are accomplished. The main tasks associated with this role include the preparation, assemble and refurbishment of various types of pumping stations, tanks, pumps, piping and water treatment equipment. The Yard Supervisor may also instruct the Water System technician to assist with other tasks associated with yard organization and to support other colleagues such as Pump Technicians, Rig Mechanics and General Labour in accomplishing their tasks.In this role, the incumbent will develop and demonstrate a deep understanding of our dewatering systems, yard process workflow and demonstrate the highest regard for safety, quality and continuous improvement.Reports to Yard SupervisorWorks with Logistics Specialist, Senior Pump Technician, Mechanic, General Labour, Delivery Driver, Project Engineers, Purchasing Engineer, Plant & Equipment Manager etc.Key areas of responsibility

  • Assemble, disassemble, refurbish and test various dewatering and water treatment systems, pumping stations and their components (tanks, pumps, pipe fittings, valves, manifolds, filters, gauges, hoses, tubes, dosing equipment, joints, insulation, etc.)
  • Perform fabrication work including measuring, cutting, drilling, crimping, soldering, gluing, welding to assemble PVC, steel or copper pipes, mounting brackets, supports, and other components,
  • Assist with mobilization of materials and equipment to site; load, unload and prepare components or systems manually or by using material handling equipment,
  • Perform tasks associated with refinishing of equipment such as such as cleaning, surface preparation and painting,
  • Assist in organizing, maintaining, and recording inventory of fittings, assemblies and other equipment and spare parts at the yard,
  • Maintain a safe working environment while while working,
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean and organized, and assist with shop and yard clean-up, organization and maintenance, some general labour tasks as required,
  • Other responsibilities as required by changing business needs.
Qualifications & experienceKey qualifications and experience for this position are:
  • Strong motivation, exceptional work ethic, professional demeanour, organizational skills and a commitment to achieving objectives,
  • 3-5 years of practical experience with, various types of plumbing/piping/process equipment and/or water management systems,
  • Good understanding of pumping and plumbing components,
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Training in a skilled trade and/or Plumbing License is considered an asset,
  • High degree of mechanical aptitude and good working familiarity with a wide range of hand and power tools,
  • Working collaboratively and effectively with other colleagues,
  • Ability to operate a skid steer, forklift and other material handling equipment,
  • Due to the nature of the job, physical requirements include the ability to lift, kneel, bend or twist repeatedly throughout the workday.
