Job Description

McKellar Structed Settlements is looking for a Corporate Controller to join their team in Guelph. McKellar is Canada’s oldest and largest structured settlement firm. We help people navigate some of life’s most difficult decisions and support the incredibly important work of our lawyer and insurer clients.As a Corporate Controller, you are part of the infrastructure that keeps our company running. You are a numbers whiz, with organizational skills beyond compare. You are a sleuth who wants to get to the bottom of things, and you enjoy solving the complex puzzles. You work well on your own and with others, are insatiably curious, have a desire to learn, develop, and contribute, and have a great sense of humour!What youll be doing:

  • Manage general daily, monthly and annual accounting functions
  • Prepare year-end financial statements and income tax returns for the corporation, each of the owners’ holding companies, and some personal income tax returns for various staff members
  • Analyze spending trends and assist in implementing cost savings plans
  • Liaise with bankers, lawyers, corporate accountants, auditors, suppliers, etc. to enhance corporate relationships
  • Assist our Structured Settlement Consultants in analyzing other financial products as to how they compare to a structured settlement regarding taxation, security, and effect on other government benefits
  • Look for and accept opportunities to contribute outside of day-to-day duties as required and as assigned from time to time
What you bring to McKellar:
  • CPA accounting designation or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of post-qualification accounting experience, including Canadian corporate and personal income tax
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior focus, attention to detail, and efficiency in completing tasks
  • Excellent time management skills in prioritizing and meeting multiple deadlines of various importance
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work and communicate with staff and contacts in a professional, businesslike manner
  • Computer proficiency; skilled in PC Law, Word and Excel; ability to learn new programs and custom databases
  • High level of motivation and dedication
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in the legal, financial, or insurance industries
  • Advanced skills in Excel
  • French fluency
