Job Description

Our employees are proud to be a part of this family-owned company, working together towards a common goal and having fun along the way.Reporting to the Canadian Research and Development Manager, the Field Development Representative (FDR) candidate has a dual role covering field science and technical support responsibilities. The FDR will conduct and/or coordinate field research with Gowan products and provide technical support to sales representatives, customers and key centers of Influence (COI’s) in the assigned territory. This role will also support marketing and regulatory activities for product development.Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a liaison between sales and marketing to identify product development opportunities for Gowan products.
  • Design protocols, plan and implement replicated trials with insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and biologicals.
  • Be the technical resource for the assigned territory.
  • Develop training material, participate in training sessions, and assist Sales with presenting product technical features at customer meetings.
  • Interact with key influencers (researchers, consultants, growers, and distribution technical staff) to demonstrate and provide technical expertise on product performance and new opportunities.
  • Conduct demonstration trials for sales representatives and customers.
  • Assist in the assessment of product performance issues.
  • Assist in developing technical bulletins, review and update provincial guide recommendations.
  • Conduct trials personally and/or manage installation and execution of field trials with contract research organizations. This includes budgeting and resource planning.
  • Conduct trial evaluations and be responsible for data entry into development database.
  • Interact with regulatory team and provide support activities such as preparing value summaries, managing Research Permit authorizations and field auditing compliance.
Ideal Candidate:
  • The ideal candidate for this position will be experienced in planning, designing, implementing and evaluating field trials for plant protection compounds using standard field research techniques.
  • The successful candidate will exhibit strong inter-personal skills and be equally skilled at communicating with fellow researchers, the Gowan sales and marketing team, and Gowan customers.
  • The role will require a very strong technical and practical understanding of eastern Canadian agricultural production practices.
  • The successful candidate is passionate about the science of agriculture and driven by a desire to help Gowan’s customers solve serious production issues using Gowan’s full product portfolio.
  • The candidate must have a thorough understanding of the Canadian crop protection industry.
  • This position demands strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills with experience in translating detailed scientific information into practical decision-ready information for non-technical clients.
  • The candidate must be a self-starter, able to take initiative, and conduct himself or herself in a professional manner with little direct supervision.
  • Gowan is looking for a strong team player that thrives in the role of being the lead technical expert supporting customer needs in their assigned region.
  • French speaking considered an asset.
