After all, we believe Canadians deserve better beer.POSITION:Packaging SupervisorLOCATION:Guelph, OntarioLEVEL:SupervisorDESCRIPTION:Reporting to the Production Manager, the production supervisor is responsible for leading a team of employees that are responsible for packaging the highest quality of beer possible within the Bottling, Canning and Kegging operations at the Brewery. Coordinate all resources (labour, material, equipment) to ensure production schedules are attained in a safe and timely manner.Key ResponsibilitiesDirectly supervise the activities of approximately 6-25 employees in the areas of canning, kegging, bottling, sanitation and repack in accordance with established SOP’s to meet scheduled production requirements in a safe mannerMaintain a safe and healthy workplace through regularly conducting safety audits, delivering tool box talks and facilitating team safety meetings.Work with Health and Safety to establish and implement new or revised processes as necessary and lead the incident investigation process for injuries, near misses and property damageMonitor operations to ensure quality checks are performed and production meets Sleeman’s quality standards. Resolve quality issues in collaboration with Quality Assurance DepartmentWork closely with maintenance personnel to ensure optimal equipment reliability through the application of Root Cause Analysis techniques while effectively summarizing the facts surrounding equipment breakdownsWork with managers and peers to recommend changes to and implement regional packaging processes and proceduresIdentify training needs for team and work with HR and the management team to ensure appropriate training is delivered and the effectiveness is measuredProvide performance management for direct reports, including developing strategies to manage absence and discipline, working collaboratively with human resources as necessaryProvide support and back-up for Maintenance, Brewing and Warehouse supervisionEnsure housekeeping and 5S standards are maintained in the departmentContribute to the implementation of the food safety strategy and supervise activities of hourly employees to verify compliance with Food Safety and quality requirementsCommunicate daily to production staff up to and including senior management of any related issuesSupport the deployment and management of various continuous improvement initiatives to improve working conditions in the areas of Safety, Quality and DeliveryPerform other related duties as requiredRequirementsMinimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing in a unionized environment, including at least 2 years in a supervisory positionSecondary school education or equivalentExperience in bottling, canning, and kegging operations considered an assetWorking knowledge of quality assurance and good manufacturing practicesEffective communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to create reports and deliver presentationsDemonstrated skills in facilitation, employee engagement, attendance and performance management, and safety enhancementAbility to prioritize and balance between short and long term plans within a fast-paced environmentComputer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio); ability to use maintenance management software considered an assetWorking knowledge of occupation health and safety act and other related legislation/regulationsAcceptable criminal record checkWorking ConditionsSpends approximately 80% of the time working in manufacturing environment and approximately 20% in an office environmentTravel may be requiredMust be able to work rotating shiftsRequired to wear PPE while in manufacturing environmentIn accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the Ontario Human Rights Code, accommodation will be provided to candidates with disabilities during the recruitment and selection process.
