To support that challenge, the North American Human Safety Team is currently seeking a Technical Expert in Toxicology. This person will provide toxicology expertise to generate the best available science for sound human health risk assessment, deliver scientific and technical portfolio leadership to support Canadian product registration, and do so within a collaborative and interdisciplinary Canadian, North American and Global team environment.We have a Flexible Work Location approach, and this role can be based in Guelph, Ontario, Calgary, Alberta or remotely across Canada. The successful candidate must be able to travel across North America.What will you do:

  • Deliver scientific and technical portfolio leadership (~60%) through
    • Creating and implementing strategies to address emerging issues and proactive data opportunities in Canada to support new active ingredient registration, and continued approval of registered active ingredients
    • Bringing innovation to the Human Safety Toxicology team by participating in and communicating advances in the field of toxicology assessment and interpretation
    • Providing direction and support to the regulatory teams with a focus on Canada
  • Ensure robust toxicology data generation (~20%) by
    • Contributing to the design and conduct of toxicology studies
    • Contextualizing results to inform and guide regulatory and commercial strategy
  • Fully utilize a collaborative approach (~20%) while
    • Communicating to external scientists, regulators, grower groups, and NGOs
    • Interfacing with regional/global Product Safety, Regulatory and Marketing colleagues at Syngenta to align Human Safety Toxicology activities with the greater organizational goals
You are someone with:
  • A Ph.D preferred in toxicology, pharmacology, chemistry or other relevant disciplines; applicants with a M.Sc. degree plus commensurate industrial, academic or governmental experience will be considered
  • 3+ years of experience in toxicology preferred
  • An energetic team-player who can operate autonomously, prioritize and adapt work responsibilities, synthesize technical details with the broader picture, and who can meet work deadlines while maintaining an effective work-life balance
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Experience in designing and managing toxicology studies ideally conducted to regulatory guidelines (i.e., OECD) at CROs preferred
  • Experience or strong understanding of the purpose and conduct of toxicology studies in the context of risk assessment
  • Effective written and oral communication/presentation skills and strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to identify critical issues, prioritize and deliver on established timelines
  • 15-20% travel required
