Job Description

We have just opened a position for a dispatcher at Floatr Transport Inc.At Floatr, we have defined the Dispatcher in a unique way. For us, the dispatcher plays a key role in the company and is the one who coordinates all the pieces (drivers, trucks, trailers, clients, brokers, shippers, and receivers) for smooth, efficient, and profitable deliveries.On that position, you will be dealing directly with our clients and drive sales and profits for the company by handling inquiries for services, quoting the work according to our standard matrix, getting the clients or brokers to appreciate the value of our services, winning the opportunities, and dispatching our drivers on the most effective routes. Yes, this is a sales position first and dispatch position second.This is a position that requires someone to be detail-oriented, able to handle pressure while maintaining a cool and professional attitude. The dispatcher is the solid foundation on which the whole operation rests. You must be well organized, dynamic, willing to work hard and enjoy dealing with challenges.Your duties will consist of:

  • Contacting inquiries for jobs, quoting according to Floatrs directives and winning opportunities.
  • Scheduling drivers to make freight deliveries.
  • Communicating with customers about freight details, delivery or pickup times, and special handling requests.
  • Planning predetermined routes and accommodating route changes as needed.
  • Preparing dispatch documents and providing these to Finance so they can do the invoicing.
  • Maintaining records of dispatched calls, driver routes, route changes, as well as delivery and pickup times.
  • Keeping track of transportation regulations and laws to ensure that truck drivers comply.
  • Reviewing drivers’ logs, including dispatched calls and arrival times.
  • Understanding truck repairs and maintenance schedules and scheduling work around these.
  • Logging customer shipping schedules and complaints.
This is a salaried position. Though this doesn’t happen regularly, the person in this position is expected to take calls after hours and handle changes of schedule and other requests. We offer a generous compensation package starting at $30/hour following with a commission starting when you have passed probation.Requirements for the applicants are:
  • Experience in sales is a must.
  • Experience in customer services is a must.
  • experience dispatching LTL is an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and being detail oriented.
  • Able to deal with a fast-paced environment and work under pressure.
