Job Description

Offering a culture that focuses on you and creating personalized connections and kind service.The Pinestone Resort and Conference Centre Overlooks 160 acres of lush “Cottage Country” landscape in the scenic Haliburton Highlands of Ontario. The area’s only full-service hotel with a golf course and restaurant, just two and a half hours from Toronto. Staff and Guests can enjoy an abundance of outdoor activities ranging from hiking, biking, downhill skiing at nearby Sir Sam’s, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing! Oversee the operation of the Maintenance Team while working in partnership with all other departments across the resort. Leading by example to assist the team and create memorable experiences for resort guests. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Maintenance Manager will be responsible to lead a team that is able to monitor and maintain the resorts facilities and equipment to property standards. Maintenance Manager will show passion for every guests experience, while promoting the goals, strategies and values that enliven the resort’s operations.Duties and Responsibilities: Essential job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Practices repairs, regular preventive maintenance and upgrades as necessary on all technical services and components of the property facilities, buildings, grounds and equipment: including electrical, carpentry, flooring, masonry, glazier, painting, HVAC, mechanical systems, refrigeration, plumbing, energy management systems, fire alarm/safety systems Laundry equipment, swimming pools, water treatment centre and special projects in accordance with legislation and Pinestone Brand Standards.
  • Provide outstanding guest service and delivery while being knowledgeable about the resort’s facilities and services.
  • Hire, train, develop and coach a knowledgeable and professional Maintenance Team. Including the training of Fire Safety Plan and Health & Safety.
  • Coach and support maintenance team to effectively manage controllable expenses such as wages, heat, light and power, water consumption, tools and equipment.
  • Ensures each team member completes orientation and required brand standards training.
  • Assists General Manager in ensuring team communication meeting and employee performance reviews are performed in a timely manner and in accordance with Pinestone Brand standards.
  • Ensure proper and timely execution of all employee related documentation (i.e. new hire paperwork, separation reporting, status changes, benefits documentation, etc.).
  • Understanding business demands and schedule staffing based hotel needs and seasonal trends.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Develops alternative solutions, uses reason at all times. Makes timely decisions while exhibiting sound judgment. Includes appropriate people in decision making process.
  • Upholds organizational values, treats people with respect and promotes a harassment free environment.
  • Approve staffing hours for payroll and submit hours on a biweekly basis.
  • Work closely with the resort managers to ensure exceptional guest arrival experience throughout the resort.
  • Attend and contribute to scheduled Leadership Team meetings to foster open communication with all other departments.
  • Follow up and provide a solutions to guest concerns as needed.
  • Oversee regular inventories and make approved purchases.
  • Ensure the team is able to accurately record work status’ in communications log book during shifts and assist with any challenges or supplies needed.
  • Maintain a work order assignment boards and track completed/pending work orders in compliance with Pinestone Brand Standards.
  • Follows up on all incomplete work orders to inform the requesting guest or department of the status.
  • Participates in the preparation on the maintenance budget, allocate invoices to the correct accounts and follows all bid processes.
  • Seeks out cost reduction methods while ensuring no impact to guest perception of the hotel.
  • Maintains key control files and locks.
  • Maintain proper chemical levels in pool and spa areas in accordance to local health codes.
  • Must be familiar with the Pinestone Resorts policies and standards.
  • Must have basic knowledge of hotel services in order to assist guests.
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Other areas of responsibilities:
  • Advocated for other leaders that seek out and secure competent, enthusiastic team members.
  • Creatively contribute to the vision of the resort’s team.
  • Act as a Manager on Duty and assist in other departments when required.
In order to be considered for this role you must have:
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a hotel Maintenance team or related field.
  • Ability to work all days of the week and schedules that consist of days, evenings and rarely overnight shifts.
  • Ability to performing repair or general Maintenance work of facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment including electrical, carpentry, flooring, wall covering, boiler operation, pool maintenance, plumbing, masonry, glazier, HVAC, and painting.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workflow while maintaining organization.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English including, reading, writing and speaking.
  • Ability to work standing, sitting and walking for extended periods or an entire shift in accordance with ESA.
  • Ability to manage frequent change, delays or unexpected events, changing approach or method to best fit a situation.
  • valid drivers license, and acceptable driving history subject to company approval.
  • Ability to commute/relocate: Haliburton County, ON - reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work is required.
The following are considered assets:
  • Vocational training is preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Previous experience with Hotel Property Management.
  • Previous experience with First Aid or current certification.
  • Knowledge of Haliburton County.
Certifications Required or must be obtained or scheduled with in first month of employment.
