Job Description

North End Community Day Care Centre is seeking a motivated and experienced Early Childhood Educator to be part of our Capable, Confident and Curious program. Our ideal candidate is dedicated to Early Childhood Education, young children, their families and communities. They would have knowledge in emergent curriculum and an understanding of children’s learning. We are looking for a candidate who has a strong sense of learning through play environments and can implement these ideas. Must be able to plan, supervise, implement, and maintain a developmentally appropriate program and environment for the children, which corresponds with the policies and philosophies of our Centre.Job Requirements:• Experience supervising young children and working in a team• Knowledge of child development and the needs of young children• Demonstrate awareness of food allergies and health and safety practices in licensed child care • Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment; be flexible to the needs of the children, educators and the centre as a whole• Reliable and self-motivated, ability to build positive working relationships with children, families, students and other educators• Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers• Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children• Storytelling• Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest• Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children• Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records• Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts• Provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity• Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits• Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties• Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods• Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor• Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors• Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings• Knowledge of Day Care Act and Regulations• Knowledge of licensing regulations• Establish guidelines for behaviour• Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members• Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children• Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children• Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children• Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hoursMust Have:Level 2 or 3 recognized by Nova Scotia ClassificationCriminal Record CheckVulnerable Sector CheckChild Abuse Registry CheckEmergency child care first aid and CPR Job Criteria:Start Date: As soon as possiblePosition Type: Full-Time PermanentYears of Experience Required: 2Education Required: OtherOvernight Travel: NoneVacation Time: 2 weeks / year Job Benefits:Health/Dental Benefits, Retirement Benefits, Paid Holidays, Vacations, and Sick Leave, Casual Dress, Day Care Services
