Job Description

For over 70 years, John Rossamp; Sons have been a leader in the international metal market and the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada. We are looking for a skilled and experienced Healthamp; Safety Advisor to join our dynamic and growing company.Our Healthamp; Safety Advisor is an integral leader in the workplace, responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining our Healthamp; Safety program and ensuring compliance with these measures. A minimum of 5 years experience is required.Working directly with our Joint Occupational Healthamp; Safety Committee, our Safety Advisor will establish, educate, and enforce all workplace safety requirements in compliance with Federal and Provincial standards to ensure overall workplace excellence.The Healthamp; Safety Advisor is the advocator for all aspects of the overall healthamp; safety of our employees; the dutiesamp; responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administer the Healthamp; Safety program on an ongoing basis.
  • Administer Drug and Alcohol Program.
  • Review, design, update, and implement healthamp; safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure contractors maintain up-to-date safety certificationsamp; comply with all Federalamp; Provincial protocolsamp; laws at all times while onsite or acting on behalf of John Rossamp; Sons Ltd.
  • Provide health and safety reports and policy documentation (as required by the Nova Scotia Health and Safety Act and the organization) along with oversite on incident, injury and illness reports.
  • Conduct incident prevention and health and safety training and ensure that employee training is always up to date.
  • Investigation of accidents and illnesses to identify the cause and establish preventative measures to avoid further incidents.
  • Organizing monthly safety meetings with management and safety committee members.
  • Dealing with health and safety concerns or complaints promptly (and as required by the Nova Scotia Health and Safety Act) and notifying employees of the decision made in response to the concern/complaint.
  • Complex WCB case management experience required with support for occupational and non-occupational.
  • Modified and Return to work programming.
  • Must be experienced dealing with government bodies such as DOL, Fire Marshalls, development of AVCs and the ability to close out Orders.
Qualificationsamp; skills:
  • A detailed understanding of the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act is an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous experience in a full-time Construction/Industrial Safety Leadership role.
  • Ability to provide direction to employees and sub-contractors.
  • Current Occupational Health and Safety Certificate.
  • Current First Aidamp; CPR Certification.
  • Fall Protection, Fire watch,amp; Confined spaces certification.
  • Clean Driving Record and Abstract.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Abstract.
  • Must possess excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, leadership and written skills.
  • Ability to travel and work outdoors in various weather conditions (hot and cold).
  • Ability to adapt and operate effectively in new and challenging work environments.
  • High-level of knowledge in workplace equipment (including heavy machinery).
  • Outstanding observation skills and attention to detail.
  • High-level understanding of data analysis and risk assessment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Formal Incident Investigation training (Tap Root/ SCAT Analysis).
  • Formal Workplace Violence and harassment investigation training.
