Job PostingHalifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the casual position of Weekend Rental Supervisor with the Adventure Earth Centre #39;s St. Mary #39;s Boat Club location. As Part of the Halifax Municipality #39;s Parks and Recreation services, the St. Mary #39;s Boat Club programs give children and youth safe access to water activities and the knowledge and experience to practiced them safety. All of the St. Mary #39;s Boat Club Programs are carried out on the North West Arm in Halifax.The Weekend Rental Supervisor will support the weekend rental staff to provide canoe and stand-up paddleboard programs on the Northwest Arm. This position also manages the fleet of kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and related equipment, delivers excellent customer service, ensures participant safety, and provides ongoing communication with participants of programs and support for staff.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMaintain the Adventure Earth Centre #39;s and St. Mary #39;s Boat Club core values, understand and uphold HRM policies and procedures Attending all required training sessions, including water safety and water rescue training Organize staff schedules and provide support to instructors Work independently to communicate with participants, staff and supervisors Set up program spaces, organize materials and open and close program spaces Provide feedback to staff and supervisors Organize, manage, and maintain equipment and supplies Ensure the safety and positive experience of participants, and other staff at all times Support and schedule the training of weekend rental staff Support persons with diverse needs and disabilities in programs (e.g. personal care, lifting, procedures, adapting activities, developing individualized plans when needed, etc.) Work Collaboratively with other coordinators and supervisors to maintain a positive work environment and clean program space Organize, manage, and maintain equipment and supplies Communicate upcoming programs and cancellation with participants Demonstrate great customer service will providing experiences for the publicQUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceMust hold Current certification in Emergency First Aid including Level C CPR (CSA Basic) (valid through to August 30th 2024) Must hold Restricted Operator #39;s License (Maritime) - VRH Radio Training or willing to obtain Must hold Pleasure Craft Operator card or willing to obtain Must have previous paddling experience Must hold Kayak or Canoe certificationConsidered as AssetPrevious leadership experience with outdoor, environmental and/or outdoor recreation Lifesaving society boat rescue Pervious experience with the Adventure Earth Centre or St. Mary #39;s Boat Club Experience with scheduling and organizing staff teams Valid Class 5 Driver #39;s License an asset Paddle Canada or ORCKA Canoe certification Paddle Canada or ORCKA Kayak certification Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset Advanced First Aid an asset Studies in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Education or similar courses an assetConditions of EmploymentApplicants must be willing to obtain WHMIS training Staff are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from work sites Copies of certification must be submitted upon hiring Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions Applicants must be available to attend all orientations/training sessions (training and orientation subject to change)Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants must complete screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge.
