Job Description

Hours: 80 hours every 2 weeks including Days and eveningsWho We AreThe work of Good Shepherd is based on a fundamental belief in providing hope and restoring dignity to the most vulnerable members of our community. Our services include emergency food transitional housing and education for homeless and street-involved youth; hospice palliative care; community mental health programs; and supportive housing programs. By integrating a Harm Reduction framework at Good Shepherd, we can decrease barriers to service and better support some of our community #39;s most marginalized members.This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Women #39;s Services - Community Support Services Good Shepherd Women #39;s Services, through its various programs, is seeing increasing numbers of children who have experienced trauma, witnessed or experienced abuse and are living in poverty. The LEAF program operates two mega-leaf sessions a year in partnership with Mission Services, and one to two smaller sessions as necessary, The rewards of this work include seeing the resiliency within children and families as they recover; seeing how your role fits within the larger social justice work of the department; and, joining a passionate, innovative outreach services team.How You Will Make an ImpactThe Learning Effective Anti-Violence for Families (LEAF) program is a psycho-educational program designed to support children up to 17 years of age who witness gender-based violence, and to provide individual and family counselling addressing the complexities these children face.The LEAF facilitator works with mothers and caregivers, providing insight on the impacts of gender-based violence on children and support with developing healthy, meaningful relationships between caregiver and child.You will also work with colleagues and partners to develop unique programming for children and women within the VAW programs; will work closely with community stakeholders, including schools, other VAW agencies, child welfare and family court systems. In addition, you will collect statistical information for both internal and external reporting requirements, communicate and coordinate with external agencies, including joint public education, program intakes and program delivery.What You #39;ll Bring to Our Team

  • One year of group facilitation experience and a completed post-secondary education in child and youth or social services related program
  • CPR/First Aid is required
  • ASK suicide prevention is an asset
  • A valid Ontario driver #39;s license and ability to drive Good Shepherd vehicles is required
  • The successful candidate will have a flexible schedule
  • Ability to speak French and/or other languages considered an asset
